What's the state of #venture in Southeast Asia? Unlike the US, where there is comprehensive financing coverage across the venture lifecycle, from a company’s inception all the way to public listing, #SoutheastAsia lacks robust funding support at the late and venture growth stages. The regional VC market saw the influx of large global players during 2019 and 2020 but many of those brand name funds have become less active during and post-pandemic. Success for regional VCs to raise a subsequent fund and/or to grow their fund size is contingent upon cash returns, which so far remained elusive due to low exit activity that we observed during the past 1-2 years. Thank you, The Straits Times, for the feature! https://lnkd.in/ghkRDp7H

Returns of the Finnish VC Funds have remained in good level, so this should be an attractive investment in general. When looking the investor base it seems that VC/BuyOut/Growh scene is still pretty much a domestic playgound. VC-funds have only 9 % ” voluntary” international capital (European Investment fund invests to every country). https://lnkd.in/g-QPDgPv As most of the VC-backed companies are looking to foreign market, it would be nice to have more international venture capital landing to hands of Finnish GP’s too. If you have good practises how to market your fund to foreign LP’s I’m sure they are valued across the whole ecosystem. #investing #startups Check the Tesi report for the details.

Since about 50% of our LP base is from Japan, this led some Japanese investors to reconsider their commitments, NAO MURAKAMI told DealStreetAsia. 🇮🇳 Incubate Fund, which launched its first dedicated India fund in 2016, has invested in nearly 30 companies in the country, including Captain Fresh, Yulu, ShopKirana, and Plum. 🔍 More on Incubate Funds' upcoming vehicles at ➡ https://lnkd.in/g8Ja8_sd

There are two things you can do: 1) Rethink your investment approach to focus less on finding the rare, large cap, massive successes and more on identifying and nurturing businesses with solid, sustainable growth potential. 2) Support small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) more actively by providing a form of mentorship and incubation. This can involve guiding these companies through processes and strategies that help them scale their operations effectively. In my portfolio, this is a major strategy.

How do we back more ideas that are not venture scalable to become sustainable in Africa? People pitch me bold ideas for Africa's future. Most won't be a 100x success in 10 years to be a fit for venture capital. But, it doesn’t mean these ideas don’t deserve funding.
