Proud to have played a role in promoting supplier diversity at the Fed! Storytime about supplier diversity (c 2016): When I was at the Federal Reserve Bank of New York, I was fortunate to co-chair an invitation-only event focused on helping diverse suppliers understand the complexities of and potential opportunities with the Fed. The 30 page acquisition policy is not a light read 📚 How we did it: Partnered with National Minority Supplier Development Council. Drew suppliers capable of providing goods and services to the Fed. Invited speakers from within the Fed to share insights into the Fed's mission and how their business can contribute to it. Hosted events twice annually, bringing together over 20 firms, distinguished speakers, workshops, and networking opportunities. USCIS just released new updates to their EB-1A policy. As is often the case, there is very little to see here. In fact, it’s slightly annoying. For example, they are now saying that team awards can count for the awards category. But if you read the fine print, they still say the petitioner must be named, and that employer awards don’t count. There is still a fundamental disconnect between USCIS policy and how high achievers in corporate America are recognized. When companies win awards, it’s because of the contributions of some core contributors. Those core contributors should also be allowed to take credit beyond the critical role category. But they are not allowed to. Even if they were, good luck getting adjudicators to actually follow the policy updates! Until this changes, high-achievers in tech and in corporate America will still need to use guerilla tactics to get what they deserve.
