Tesla’s planned robotaxi launch has raised eyebrows in China China’s aiming to lead the world in autonomous driving, and the numbers speak for themselves. "Domestically, Beijing has issued a total of 16,000 test licenses for autonomous vehicles, according to the Ministry of Public Security, more than any other country. In all, 32,000 kilometers of roads in China have been opened for autonomous vehicle testing." An official close to the situation said, "The Chinese government is also encouraging companies to go overseas so we can have the first-mover advantage before Tesla or other American companies take the lead". "Tesla's robotaxi plan has set off an alarm in both the Chinese government and companies' heads telling them to speed up or we'll be left behind." With the US and China unlikely to let each other operate autonomous vehicles on home turf, this race is going global. It will be interesting to watch, so you might as well grab a drink, sit back, and enjoy the show. Here’s to your sales success in China and Asia, Chris #AutonomousVehicles #robotaxi #SmartMobility #FutureofTransport #TechInnovation #USChinaCompetition

After #BYD announced that it has licenses to test Level-3 (i.e., “conditional automation”) #autonomousdriving on high-speed roads in #China, the company’s ambition to move into the autonomous vehicle industry has become clear. However, BYD’s path to success in this industry is unlikely to be smooth because of competition from #WeRide, a forerunner with a strong foundation in the industry. Equipped with Level-4 (i.e., “high driving automation”) technology, WeRide has put into operation multiple innovative products, including #Robotaxis, #Robobuses, and #Robovans, What factors contribute to WeRide’s success? Drawing on her extensive experiences in studying Chinese companies, especially those in the #technology industry, and her meetings with specialists who are familiar with the autonomous vehicle industry in China, Lin Liu (Lin L.) shares her analysis in this article. https://lnkd.in/gS69SG49 #sinotalks

As KelRide concludes, we are proud to share key takeaways from more than 3 years of our #DriverlessTechnology powering the service. The innovative public transport initiative in the Kelheim district in Bavaria, Germany, integrated autonomous and conventional vehicles into a seamless and efficient transport system. It represents the largest deployment of EasyMile's #AutonomousDriving software in its history and the most extensive continuous coverage of highly automated traffic in public spaces across Europe. Funded by the Federal Ministry for Digital and Transport with 15.6 million euros there are six project partners: EasyMile as consortium leader, the district of Kelheim, the Technical University of Berlin, TÜV Rheinland Group, Via and the P3. KelRide focused on dynamic routing and the efficient integration of autonomous vehicles into the broader public transport network, moving beyond the constraints of fixed lines to offer improved service flexibility. Key learnings: 🧑🔧️ Technical: Development of competencies in the deployment of a large road network rather than single trajectories. 📈 Market penetration: Operation of a mixed fleet together with conventional vehicles cover wide range of use cases is of benefit. 🌍 Definition of further going requirements on autonomous vehicle Operational Design Domains (ODD)’s in order to further expand service. 🚌 Platform reliability and availability key for market penetration. These takeaways will continue to influence the broader autonomous mobility industry. The insights gained, particularly in terms of user acceptance, traffic optimization, and technology reliability, will be invaluable as we move forward. KelRide has proven that autonomous shuttles can be a crucial component of future transportation systems.

Pony.ai Partners With GemVaxLink to Promote Autonomous Driving in South Korea Chinese self-driving startup Pony.ai has joined hands with South Korean tech firm GemVaxLink to advance autonomous driving technologies and applications in South Korea. Pony.ai and GemVaxLink will set up a joint venture in Seoul before the end of the year to co-build an autonomous driving service fleet in the South Korean capital city and explore more self-driving products in the country, the Guangzhou-based company announced yesterday, citing a deal the pair recently signed. Most cars sold in South Korea are equipped with Level 1 and L2 assisted driving technology, as L4 autonomous driving is not yet very popular in the country, Pony.ai noted. However, given its mature urban infrastructure and market environment, South Korea has good foundations for the development of self-driving technologies, the firm added. South Korea’s autonomous driving solutions market is expected to reach a size of CNY14 billion (USD1.9 billion) by 2028 from CNY7.7 billion (USD1.1 billion) this year, Pony.ai predicted. #autonomousvehicles #autonomousdriving #automotivetechnology

ROBO-TAXI: Rimac Automobili launches autonomous rideshare service #Verne Verne is a self-driving rideshare service based around a new two-seater autonomous vehicle, which was launched at Rimac Campus near #Zagreb, #Croatia, by Mate Rimac and colleagues from the Rimac Group – Marko Pejković, CEO of Verne, and Adriano Mudri, Verne chief design officer. Mudri said, “It was tricky to find the right name for our new endeavour that fits the vision. But once it clicked, it clicked, and it was easy to decide. We named ourselves after the #JulesVerne, the famous author, who is said to be ‘the man who invented the future’." The Verne ecosystem will comprise three main elements: a fully autonomous #electric ehicle, a mobility service platform (MSP) and specialized infrastructure. Chinese autonomous driving startup WeRide has reached a significant milestone, receiving approval from California's Public Utilities Commission to test its driverless vehicles with passengers. This three-year permit is a crucial step for WeRide as it expands its operations in the U.S., particularly in San Jose and nearby areas, with 12 active vehicles. This approval comes amidst the company’s pursuit of a potential $5 billion valuation ahead of a New York IPO, despite challenges such as impending U.S. regulations on China-developed systems. Operating in a competitive and heavily regulated environment, WeRide joins the ranks of other players like Alphabet's Waymo and General Motors' Cruise, who are also navigating the complex landscape of autonomous vehicle testing and commercialization in the U.S. While regulatory hurdles and public concerns remain, this development signals WeRide's commitment to advancing autonomous mobility in a challenging market. As the autonomous driving industry continues to evolve, WeRide’s progress in California will be one to watch. #AutonomousVehicles #Robotaxi #MobilityFuture
