Purple Loosestrife (Lythrum salicaria) is a wetland invasive plant. It has purple flowers arranged on flower spikes. It’s stem, which makes it recognizable, is square shaped with 4-6 sides. Each plant can produce 2.7 million seeds every, single, year. It wreaks havoc on aquatic ecosystems. Purple loosestrife can grow in dense patches along shorelines, making it difficult to get in and out of the water. It can overtake valuable habitat, out-competing native and usable vegetation. As well, the dense root system can change the hydrology of a wetland. #AquaticInvasiveSpecies #PullthePlug #StopAquaticInvasiveSpecies #CleanDrainDry
