The process of calculating a building's overall project cost is known as estimation and costing.
The final work is completed for Police Staff Accommodation .
1. Estimation and Costing
> Items (Quantity)
2. Schedule of Rates
> Rates
3. BOQ
> Amount
Our project of under taken rates are CPWD - (SOR)
• SOR (Schedule of Rates)
SOR stands for Schedule of Rates, and it is a document used in construction and civil engineering projects to standardize the pricing of various construction works and materials. It serves as a reference for calculating the cost of work items in construction, ensuring consistency and fairness in cost estimation and project execution.
• CPWD SOR:
The Central Public Works Department (CPWD) releases an SOR for use in central government projects. It is a widely recognized standard in the construction industry across India.

In the context of estimation and costing in civil engineering, an abstract sheet refers to a structured summary or breakdown of all the cost elements involved in a construction project. It serves as a comprehensive document that outlines the estimated costs for various components of the project, helping stakeholders understand the financial aspects at a glance. Here are the key components typically included in an abstract sheet.
The Cost Summary is a critical component in any estimation and costing process, as it provides a clear overview of the total expected project costs. By detailing each major cost category—materials, labor, equipment, overheads, contingencies, and profit—it ensures transparency, helps in financial planning, and facilitates smooth project execution.
If you need help preparing a cost summary for a specific project or would like further details, feel free to ask!

The recent spate of bridge collapses in Bihar underscores the critical need for robust engineering practices and stringent oversight in construction projects.
Here are the latest incidents:
June 30: Bridge collapsed in Madhubani, where a 25-meter long supporting pillar fell into the river below.
June 29: Bridge caved in at Kishanganj.
June 23: Small bridge collapsed in East Champaran.
June 22: Bridge over the Gandak canal collapsed in Siwan.
June 19: Concrete bridge over the Bakra River collapsed in Araria.
These incidents highlight the urgency to address potential causes of such catastrophic failures:
1. Structural Deficiencies 🔧 Poor design and inadequate materials can significantly compromise a bridge's structural integrity. Ensuring that all structural elements meet high-quality standards and are appropriately designed is crucial to prevent collapse.
2. Lack of Proper Maintenance 🛠️ Even during construction, regular inspections and maintenance are essential. Issues like corrosion, wear and tear, and environmental damage need to be addressed promptly to ensure the structure remains sound.
3. Environmental Factors 🌧️ Rising water levels, as seen in the Madhubani incident, can weaken the foundations and supporting pillars of bridges. Proper analysis of environmental impacts and designing structures to withstand such conditions are vital for durability.
4. Overloading and Stress 🚚 Exceeding load capacities can cause undue stress on bridge components, leading to failures. Ensuring that bridges are designed to handle expected loads, and monitoring these loads during and after construction, is essential.
5. Design Flaws 📐 Inadequate or flawed design can result in bridges that are not equipped to handle environmental and load stresses. Thorough design reviews and adherence to engineering standards are critical to avoid such pitfalls.
6. Human Error ⚠️ Mistakes during construction, such as incorrect placement of reinforcement, improper curing of concrete, or failure to follow design specifications, can significantly compromise the integrity of a bridge.
These incidents underscore the importance of rigorous planning, design, and construction practices. Implementing robust safety protocols and continuous monitoring throughout the construction process can help prevent such tragic failures.

I often see these adv with min requirement BE Civil with some years of exp… want to understand why don’t companies think of hiring PhD’s or Mtech’s … coz PhD itself is kinda exp … … Atleast in pavement engg works we need expertise … when I see big failures happening due to simple overlooks / silly mistakes.. in BTech students are hardly taught on Pavement Engg. I often hear from PhD students that they want to join into the main work force but companies are receptive n don’t give them proper remuneration. Hiring a PhD and MTech can be really helpful to the companies. At the same time PhD holders also need to be clear that if they want to work on projects then it’s not a white collar job : u have to get down to site …. But I tell you guys it’s very much rewarding …
Want to understand the gap…..🤔🤔

Each airport canopy collapse — Jabalpur, Delhi and Rajkot — was preceded by or occurred during heavy rainfall. But engineers say the excessive rainwater would by itself have, at its worst, exacerbated the underlying issues of concern that resulted in the catastrophic structural failures.
Large structures are typically constructed from steel sections with fixed or hinged joints and one possible line of investigation, she said, would be to focus on the joints. There are multiple ways to execute the joints — through welding, bolts or connectors.
“Joints need to be executed with perfection — execution needs to match the original design intent. And lack of appropriate execution can make the joint vulnerable,” she added.
Under heavy rain or strong wind conditions, Wij said, a vulnerable joint may be unable to absorb the ballooning effect from the wind and could cause structural instability that could lead to a collapse.
Poor maintenance is another possible source of trouble, said another structural engineer who is an associate professor of civil engineering in a government academic institution.
Rainwater is not directly responsible but it could act on an already weak area. Adequate maintenance and timely repair could prevent such failures.
