I hope Adam Mills FIHE doesn’t mind me nicking his picture for this post but the challenges facing Traffic Management as people on the ground see it are not on this list. You know them people lm talking about, don’t you? The people that actually put the jobs on, experience the difficult situations, the people given plans by incompetent planners, the people there by themselves in dangerous situations as the budget doesn’t allow for a trainee, you know them people. Them people who haven’t been given adequate training, don’t have any competency checks, training in historical scenarios, drugs and drink testing and finally them people who don’t even know what the mission or objectives of Traffic Management are. THEM PEOPLE! I just had a read of the titles for these two days in the Safety & Sustainability Theatre. Jesus Christ l had to down a bottle of Gaviscon with 6 Rennie. A particularly interesting title was “increasing Road Safety through effective Traffic Control design” . Simple explanation to that is, we have 4 designs of Traffic Control that when implemented CORRECTLY by PROFFESSIONLLY TRAINED STAFF they work just fine. Get out of your van, smile now and again, patrol the site, help an elderly lady and interact with the public.

Great to catch up with some familiar faces today and to meet some new ones, at the Traffex exhibition, held at Coventry Building Society Arena. Venue looked great and the show was very well organised. Ample free parking on site was a bonus too!

Recently I was catching up with Thomas Lepretre from JEC Group in Türkiye. He shared some valuable tips for exhibiting at JEC World 2025 to the Composites Lounge and advanced materials communities. Before we delve into his tips there are only a few spaces left, if you consider exhibiting in 2025. You may contact Thomas or his colleaugues direct. Thomas will provide the details in the comments section below. Now mind these important tipps from the Show Director himself: Tip 1: Preparation is key, including planning what to display and how to present new products or innovations. JEC Group provides free tools and services to help with this. Tip 2: Engagement, that is to prioritize engagement by identifying target audiences and utilizing the business meetings platform to connect with potential buyers. Lastly, exhibitors should make the most of their time at the event to maximize opportunities. Ready to make the most of JEC World 2025? Write your booth no. into the comments and state why visitors should pay you a visit! #composites360OnTour #JECWorld2025

What could be the most unconventional location for hosting an Ultra-Luxury Watch Exhibition? This activation came close to this idea — it took place in a tire shop. However, it wasn’t just any tire shop; it was in a space that offers far more than the standard tire-changing experience. Throwback video to 2021

As a first-time attendee, the IAAPA Expo First-Timer Welcome Event was a great way to start the week. Here are some key takeaways I’ll be carrying with me: Brian Knoebel: Cancel your dinner plans and go buy good shoes. The Expo floor is massive, and being comfortable is IMPORTANT! Monai Rooney: Be brave. Approach someone new and ask, ‘Do you have a moment?’ The best connections come when you step out of your comfort zone. Ryan MacKenzie: Be honest. When you are networking, authenticity builds trust and lasting relationships. Heather Barnes: Divide and conquer. Split up with your team, take notes, and share what you’ve learned. There’s no way to cover everything solo Thanks for taking the time to share your experience and tricks. Looking forward to putting these lessons into action this week!

Key takeaways from #cenexexpo2024: - Unlike other years, very few fleet operators made it to Cenex Expo. My impression is that it was mostly thinkers, solutions providers and innovators. - The Logistics sector is going through a perfect storm, forcing innovation: low margins, driver scarcity, increased CO2 reduction and safety requirements. This makes it more difficult for stakeholders to fully focus on issues that aren’t immediate. - There are already standards available for designing HGV charging in depots and to operate BEV/H2 depots. This early focus on commonly-accepted standards should allow us to avoid making the same mistakes made in the early days of car electrification. - Hydrogen was very present. As one panelist mentioned, EV is always going to be more efficient. H2 will be for extreme cases that are hard to decarbonise (ships, planes, very heavy duty transport). Ammonia is forecasted to be the most popular transport vector for H2 due to the existing capabilities. A panelist suggest we consider local grey H2 instead of blue/green H2 coming from far far away. - There are loads of reports and tools already existing to help accelerate the transition. I walked away with multiple interesting references, which I will dig into in the coming weeks. - As a society, we missed the boat by not adequately pricing for the cost of pollution. - Systems thinking and Roadmaps are two important tools to see more clearly through this big challenge.
Thank you to everyone who visited and supported #cenexexpo2024... Here are our highlights ⚡️👍
