Can leaders just have IT? IT, defined as that intangible quality when you meet someone and immediately want to be a part of their team, to be inspired by them, learn from them, and be led by them. There is, of course, a delicate balance in this. History has taught us that humanity has often followed seducers who have led their followers astray, metaphorically speaking. But returning to the present, where we then and again encounter leaders who possess IT. I spent 30 years of my life in a dressing room. While not many footballers have won Nobel Prizes, we had a remarkable ability to discern leaders who lacked IT. Coaches who attempted to conceal their weaknesses through excessive theory, anger, arrogance, or digital tools intended to impress the players. So, yes, I have encountered some who did NOT have IT! Then there was our National Coach Egil Olsen, "Drillo," who undeniably had it. Primarily due to his knowledge and ideas, but also his ability to instill in us the feeling of taking on the whole world. The reason I began writing this on Good Friday, however, was the news that Xabi Alonso has decided to remain at Bayer 04 Leverkusen Alonso is on the verge of securing the Bundesliga - title after FC Bayern München winning 11 in a row. And mark my words: Alonso unquestionably possesses IT. Both as a player and as a leader. He was a leader on the pitch for Liverpool Football Club, Bayern, Real Madrid C.F. and the Spanish National Team. Mind you, this is only his first full season in Germany, but he has yet to taste defeat, and his team exhibits a clear identity and unity. I have only encountered him in my capacity as an interviewer. I interviewed him both as a player and as a coach. And trust me, the BIG IT is there. As he demonstrated with his decision to remain in Leverkusen. He could have managed Bayern and Liverpool. But he chose to stay where he is. Conveying this message to his players this morning. Expressing it eloquently in a press conference today to take any pressure and attention away from the massive games coming up. A significant credit to Simon Rolfes the Managing Director Sports, and his team. Establishing a culture of growth as they strive to transform Leverkusen into a trophy-winning force. 🔧🏎️ Genesys shares a drive for innovation, teamwork, and performance with our partners, all who share in our passion for winning outcomes. We sat down with Scuderia Ferrari HP Team Principal, Frederic Vasseur, to discuss how we are Driven by Experiences, how he is able to lead with an eye on the future, and what makes a successful partnership. Fred shared his insights: 🚥 "First, I'm in love with racing. We are the new generation of fans who join F1, becoming more involved and closer to the teams. To lead a racing team is no different for me than to lead another company. What's crucial in my business is to empower the people to take the right decisions. My job is to give them the tools, resources, and support they need. 🔮 "Predicting the future is always difficult. We need to have an eye on the next race, the next year, and the three-to-four-year program. We must investigate all areas of technology and excel in recruitment. It's about investment and keeping an eye on the next race. 🤝 "The best partner for a Formula 1 team is someone who is a leader in their own business and shares the same values. At the end of the day, you have to prepare for the future, and that requires strong partnerships. We are preparing the future." Join us as we drive forward together! 🚀 #Innovation #Teamwork #Performance #DrivenByExperiences #F1 #Partnerships #Genesys #Ferrari #cx #customerexperience #genesys #experienceasaservice #ex #employeeexperience #ai #ki https://lnkd.in/dnNN7keT

An #academictalentacquisition Lesson We Can Learn from Niklas Füllkrug’s Career Path 🌍 📑 Thank you to Michael J Boorman and his page Wisdom Made Easy for the awesome artwork leading to the inspo to actually pick up the pen and write. Niclas Füllkrug has been one of my favorite national team players since the last World Cup. A humble, authentic, and humorous guy. On the pitch, you can always count on him as a deadly striker. When Germany needs it most, he delivers. Just this weekend, he scored the first goal early on and paved the way for a 5-0 blowout victory. And while he’s now an integral part of our national team, he wasn’t on many people’s radar for too long. Just in the summer of 2021, while striking for Werder Bremen in the 2nd tier, he faced a tough period. Things didn’t click with Coach Markus Anfang. Things escalated and Anfang even wanted him off the team. Füllkrug’s situation took a turn for the better when their new coach Ole Werner, opted for a completely different approach and re-implemented him as a striker. Fast forward to today and Füllkrug has suited up for the national team, been to the champions league final and will be suiting up for West Ham playing in the prestigious premier league. Now, the lesson we can learn from this story is one that applies directly to academic talent acquisition as well. Just like in sports, talent needs the right environment to thrive. Füllkrug’s career shows that even top performers can struggle when placed in the wrong system or under leadership that doesn’t recognize their strengths. But when given the right support, #academicleadership, and a team that complements their skills, they can soar to new heights. In #academicrecruitment, it's essential to not only assess qualifications and experience but also to consider the cultural fit and the leadership environment into which a candidate is being placed. A talented individual who isn’t given the opportunity to flourish may become frustrated and underperform. On the flip side, a nurturing environment can turn a hidden gem into a star performer, Whether in football or academia, success is often about more than just individual talent; it’s about creating the conditions for that talent to shine. 🚀

Rafa Nadal at Roland Garros – Words fail to capture the glory, the heights, the achievements, the magic! 👏 👏 👏 Yesterday, we watched Rafa Nadal at Roland Garros, possibly (but hopefully not!) for the last time in a Grand Slam. Whether you are a business professional or an entrepreneur Rafa's journey is a source of immense inspiration, motivation, and learnings. His journey isn’t just about titles; it’s a powerful story of heart, determination, and unwavering spirit. Rafa's dedication is awe-inspiring. Every point he played, he gave his all, reminding us that true success comes from giving our best, every single time. His relentless commitment teaches us that no task is too small to be approached with full passion. What stands out even more than his victories is Rafa's humility. Despite his legendary status, he remains grounded and respectful. This humility is a lesson for us all: no matter how high we rise, staying humble keeps us connected and respected by those around us. Rafa's respect for his opponents and impeccable sportsmanship highlight the importance of integrity and kindness in every interaction. His constant pursuit of improvement, even at the peak of his career, inspires us to keep growing and evolving. Rafa's resilience, especially in bouncing back from serious injuries, is a testament to his indomitable spirit. It shows us that setbacks are not the end but a chance to come back stronger. Let's take a page from Rafa Nadal's playbook. Let’s lead with dedication, humility, and resilience. Let’s inspire those around us by showing that true greatness comes from within. Here’s to playing every point with passion and leading with heart. Let’s embrace the spirit of Rafa and strive for greatness in all we do. ❓ What did you learn from Rafa's career? #Leadership #Resilience #Dedication #ContinuousImprovement #Humility #Respect

This is masterclass stuff here by Lisa Su Leaders please remember you are already the boss you don’t need the credit as well. Question: “Do you speak English?” Answer: “Yes” Notably not “of course”. She could have took offense but she also could have assumed no ill intent and just answered the question which is what happened. Lesson here is to give grace and assume good intentions this will make your life easier. Question: “What are you doing on the grid?” Answer: “I’m with AMD and we are sponsoring the Ferrari car” Notably not “I am the CEO” and she used “we” instead of “I” when answering. Lesson here is she could have used that second answer to crush him about his previous question. She could have implied she was more important than him or others. Instead she amplified the team and made no mention of her role or part in leading it. The reason AMD is sponsoring a car is not to make the CEO more famous. They are amplifying their brand. Lisa Su understood that and turned a 25 second interaction that could have went off the tracks quickly into an opportunity to amplify the brand even more. #leadership #assumegoodintentions #focusonthemessage https://lnkd.in/eYQTzSa7

On June 3, 1997, Roberto Carlos stunned the world with one of the most spectacular free kicks in football history during a game between Brazil and France. The ball, seemingly destined to miss the target, swerved dramatically and found the back of the net, leaving everyone in awe. This incredible goal was a perfect demonstration of the Magnus effect, where the spin of the ball created a pressure difference, causing it to curve in an almost magical way. In business, we often face challenges that seem insurmountable, much like the seemingly impossible trajectory of Roberto Carlos's free kick. However, just as the Magnus effect can alter the path of a spinning ball, an innovative mindset can transform obstacles into opportunities. Here are some key takeaways from this iconic moment in sports that we can apply to our personal and business lives: 1.Embrace the Spin. Just as the spin on the ball created a new path, our mindset, unique perspectives and innovative ideas can lead to unexpected and successful outcomes. Don't be afraid to think differently and challenge the status quo. 2. Understand the Forces at Play. Roberto Carlos's goal was not just about power but understanding the physics behind the kick. Similarly, in business, understanding the underlying factors and dynamics can help us navigate challenges more effectively. 3.Stay Persistent. The goal was a result of precise execution and persistence. In our professional journeys, staying committed to our goals, even when the path seems unclear, can lead to remarkable achievements. 4.Collaborate and Innovate. Just as a team supports a player, fostering a culture of collaboration and innovation within our organisations can drive us towards success. Encourage diverse ideas and perspectives to create a more dynamic and resilient team. Let's take inspiration from Roberto Carlos's legendary free kick and apply the same principles of innovation, persistence, and understanding to overcome our business challenges to create impactful change. www.terrypaule.com Watch the video below to see the spectacular free kick! #Innovation #Mindset #Wegrowwater #BusinessSuccess #Myco #RobertoCarlos #Terrypaule #MagnusEffect #Leadership #Teamwork #Inspiration
