Back in the late 90s until probably 2010, the most important thing for customers was ontime performance. Majority of the meetings included a 96-98% ontime requirement, with the rate being 2nd or 3rd most important service expectation. Since then , the entire industry has been about rates. The market is so over saturated with brokers/carriers compared to 15 yrs ago that ontime doesn’t matter half as much. The money saved on rates can cover missed mabd dates. Until customers start caring more about service and learn that cheapest usually means more work, this will not change. Recently someone was asking us about why Auto Monkey is different. While there are few things that differentiate us in the automotive repair and tech industry like, it's an app you download, mechanics repair your car at whichever parking space you're in — home, work, grocery store, restaurant, etc. — the convenience of booking appointments on your time, the speed of service (repairs are typically done within 3 days), or our amazing 2-year/24,000 mile warranty. But, in today's economy, what really sets us apart is our pricing. We know, "What a cliché thing to say." But seriously...it's more than just the price, it's our Founding Monkey's philosophy that structures the pricing. Check it out. Auto Monkey charges customers less than ANY shop or competing app. BUT ALSO! Auto Monkey also pays its mechanics more than ANY shop or competing app too. Are you floored yet? The customer was baffled at this statement. "What?! Why?!" Here's the deal. We know that cost of living and goods have been inflating. We all feel it in our wallets. But while the government is messing with their levers to band-aid the situation, we feel we can help people out more immediately by keeping our costs low and paying the mechanic more. This is a true win/win situation. 1. We charge somewhere around $50/hr less for labor than competing shops and apps. This means you can save at least $50 on a simple brake job! 2. Our parts margin is also lower than any other. Shops charge as much as double the wholesale cost. We charge a mere 25% more. 3. We pay our mechanics up to a staggering $60/hr! On top of this, they get a $25 service fee per appointment plus any bonuses. Mechanics working on the Auto Monkey platform can bonus around $10,000 or more annually depending on their own performance! So...in the end, if a mechanic puts in a 40 billable hours work week consistently, they can earn roughly $135,000 annually. By the way, according to the Indeed, Reddit and Salary.com, the average wage for a mid to senior level mechanic is $40-$50,000 annually. Lube shops all over the country only pay a base of roughly $10-12/hr., this includes service managers. While it's not completely uncommon to know a mechanic that makes between $50-$100k, they are more the exception than the rule. And most these guys making that much work north of 70 hours a week. We love this company philosophy because, here, at Auto Monkey, we not only see the benefits we feel and get the benefits.
