KUALA LUMPUR: The Ministry of Energy Transition and Water Transformation through the Energy Commission (EC) will offer a solar quota of 2,000MW through a competitive bidding process under the next phase of the large scale solar (LSS) programme. The bidding process for the fifth round of the LSS or LSS-Energy Transition SuRiA targets a total capacity of 2,000MWac, according to a document by the ministry sighted by StarBiz. The solar power plants under the fifth LSS program are scheduled to start operating in 2026. The packages offered are: Package 1 for rooftop/ground solar power plants with a total quota offered of 250MWac and the allowed capacity range is between 1MWac to <10MWac. Package 1 projects are opened to bidding for companies or consortiums incorporated in Malaysia with a 100% Bumiputera equity ownership, obtained Bumiputera company rating from the Ministry of Finance and is registered as a Small and Medium Enterprise (SME) with SME Corp Malaysia, it said. Package 2 is for rooftop/ground solar power plants with a total quota offered of 250MWac with an allowed capacity range of between 10MWac to <30MWac. Package 2 projects are open to bidding for companies or consortiums incorporated in Malaysia with the condition of at least a 51% Bumiputera equity ownership which has obtained a Bumiputera company rating from the Ministry of Finance and 100% local equity ownership.

We are pleased to announce South Africa’s largest registered rooftop solar installation at our super-regional asset, Eastgate Shopping Centre. Eastgate’s journey to becoming an environmental leader began in 2020, where the first phase of the solar system was commissioned, a significant step in the centres commitment to sustainable energy practices. This first phase consisted of a 1 MW [AC] or 1.219MWp solar power installation, which has resulted in an energy saving of 1 910 MWh in 2023. Since then, as part of its second phase, the mall has actively expanded its renewable energy capacity, with the addition of a 5 MW [AC] or 5.997MWp solar power installation. In total the mall has almost 13,675 solar panels, which equates to 35.04% of the energy required to run Eastgate’s daily load, generated through solar energy. This is the largest registered rooftop installation, when considering both phases combined generate a total of 6MW [AC] or 7.216MWp in solar power. The solar installation covers most of the available mall roof space, an area of approximately 28,100m². The energy generated will be used to power the mall’s daily operations. The project is set to be completed in Q3 2024. L2D has made significant investments in renewable energy as part of its Net Zero Carbon journey and is proud to lead many firsts in the industry. Asian Development Bank (ADB) and Buskowitz Solar Inc. Sign $12 Million Deal to Boost Solar Energy in the Philippines The Asian Development Bank (ADB) and Buskowitz Solar Inc., a subsidiary of Buskowitz Energy Inc., have inked a $12 million agreement to promote clean and affordable solar energy for commercial and industrial consumers in the Philippines. The project aims to generate 88 gigawatt-hours of clean electricity annually and reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 54,000 tons. Axpo Group Initiates Construction of 20 MWp Solar Power Plant in Northern Italy Axpo has commenced construction on a 20 MWp ground-mounted solar power plant at Manzano in the Friuli Venezia Giulia region of northern Italy, marking a significant advancement in its solar energy initiatives across Europe. The project, named &#8216;Parco Molini&#8217;, underscores Axpo&#8217;s commitment to expanding renewable energy infrastructure. In December 2023, Axpo secured a purchase agreement with Semesteb, an Italian developer specializing in utility-scale solar systems, for the &#8216;ready-to-build&#8217; solar plant. Spanning 16 hectares, the facility will feature nearly 34,500 solar panels and is expected to generate more than 25 GWh of clean energy annually, sufficient to power approximately 9,000 households. 💥💥💥 Trina Solar's International Systems Business Unit ("Trina Solar ISBU"), the utility-scale solar and battery storage project development arm of Trinasolar Co, Ltd, has signed a 15-year Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with EGO, an Italian energy management company owned by the Shell Group. This contract encompasses 9 projects, totaling 69 MWp located across various regions in Italy. These projects are currently under construction or nearing commencement in 2024 and 2025, expected to generate approximately 1000 jobs in 9 regions nationally. Once operational, this portfolio is expected to generate 119 GWh annually, equivalent to electricity needs of 7,000 average-sized households. A new “world’s largest” solar & storage on the way: construction on a 3.5GWp PV + 4.5GWh battery #energystorage in the Philippines 🇵🇭 Meralco Terra Solar is scheduled to go into commercial operation by 2027, with Terra Solar Philippines awarding the project’s EPC contract to China Energy Engineering Group (Energy China). The Edwards & Sanborn solar-plus-storage project in California, US, is thought to feature the world’s biggest lithium-ion (Li-ion) BESS facility so far to date; 3.29GWh, alongside 0.875GWdc of solar PV.
