Feeling connected and energised after Day 2 of the UNGCNA UNiting Business Live Conference. Some takeaways from what was a very raw and real day, which saw tears openly shed by a number of speakers (Part 1 of 2): 1️⃣ We must move beyond commitments to action. We need to just get on with it - if we wait around for regulation it will be too late. There’s a clear advantage for first movers, early adopters, change makers. Good work is already being done and we need to continue to build on it. 2️⃣ Embed First Nations’ knowledge and do it in a respectful way that properly recognises Indigenous peoples’ rights, culture and their sustainable management of Country for many thousands of years. Progress has been made but we still have so much to learn. 3️⃣ Adopt an integrated approach. There has been a tendency to isolate problems and to then try and solve them in isolation. This doesn’t work for sustainability given the interconnection between human rights, nature and climate. 4️⃣ Greenhushing is a bigger risk than greenwashing. 5️⃣ Human rights and environmental due diligence is evolving. It’s important for businesses to look at how they can support their suppliers, in particular, SMEs, so they can benefit from the data you are collecting from them.
