I look forward to being at the German Creative Economy Summit as a panel speaker this year. With a turnover of over 175 billion Euros, the 'creative industry' is not only one of the most significant economic sectors in Germany, but also a societal driving force with great innovative power. The GCES by is Germany's first national industry meeting for all submarkets of the creative industry, bringing together company representatives, creatives, and decision-makers from politics, science, associations, and national funding institutions to discuss topics that concern our overlapping markets. The theme of my panel session? Hype Culture! Shaped by asymmetric creativity and the shift of aspiration, Hype Culture might be one of the biggest challenges and opportunities of our century. Bold thesis? - Yeah, perhaps. But anyone who has dealt with digital or physical queues for new "drops" or "restocks" of beauty, fashion and tech brands or followed viral posts about celebrity product launches knows: Hypes seem to run the world. Hypes determine the value assigned to things and topics of this generation. The central question of this panel is, therefore: What would be possible if, instead of solely focusing on capitalistic profits, the creative energy and attention of our Hype Culture were also directed towards the social, ecological, and economic challenges of our future? It’s impossible to ignore a stark contrast at Fondazione La Biennale di Venezia: some pavilions are grand and sprawling, while others are small, tucked away, and almost hidden. Most of the largest, most prominent spaces are occupied by countries from the global North - while countries from the global South often have smaller, less visible spaces. Does money really rule the world - even in art? And if it does, what does that mean for the business world, especially when it comes to trade shows and events? At its heart, the Biennale is a platform for creative expression, where nations showcase their cultural identity. But the uneven distribution of resources and space speaks to a deeper issue: Power and capital still determine whose voices get heard the loudest. This isn’t just an art world issue. We see the same dynamics play out in business, especially in the events space. The companies with the biggest budgets get the prime exhibition spots, the largest booths, and the most visibility - while smaller players are often left on the fringes. In both worlds, the loudest, most visible voices aren’t necessarily the most innovative or important, but the ones with the most financial backing. 💸 The core message here is simple: Money plays a central role in determining who gets attention, but that doesn’t mean it’s the most valuable metric. The real question we should be asking ourselves: how we can create spaces where innovation and creativity thrive, regardless of financial power. The Biennale’s setup reflects global inequality, but it also offers a chance to challenge it. Smaller pavilions often house the most thought-provoking, challenging works - just as smaller companies and startups often push the boundaries in business. What if we reimagined trade shows and events to give more space to these smaller, more innovative voices? It’s time to rethink how we allocate space and attention - because the most important voices aren’t always the loudest.

How well does our creativity perform on the global stage? If you believe we lead, this is for you. I dropped in on a research led discussion by the Creative Industries Policy and Evidence Centre (PEC) feat. The CEO of the BPI Dr Jo Twist OBE (she/her) and Caroline Rush CEO British Fashion Council. This is what I heard. For all our soft power as a nation we have a very siloed approach to culture, tech and creativity. This is in stark contrast to trailblazing nations like South Korea who make no distinction and encourage culture and optimise tech to fuel ALL aspects of creativity, from digital content and gaming to music, film and fashion. Whilst K- pop entertainment might not be our cultural cup of tea. The statistics don't lie - the UK is losing out. We shine in our ability to create, market, advertise and manage relationships. A recent article in BizBash recognized AIMM’s presence at the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity Lions Festival of Creativity, highlighting the impact of our Belonging Lounges. We are proud to have created a welcoming space to foster discussions about inclusivity and we look forward to continuing to use our voice at next year’s festival. The Internationalist also acknowledged AIMM’s push for industry-wide change, spotlighting the research presented by founder Gilbert Dávila on diverse-owned and diverse-targeted media at the 2nd annual AIMM GrowthFronts event in New York. In addition to setting industry goals this year at GrowthFronts, AIMM measured industry progress in a recent report featured in an article in Roastbrief. This new research reveals a gap between organizational and industry progress when it comes to inclusivity and identifies industry challenges. The research center Global Minds at Work aims to facilitate the development of the global competence of young professionals. By doing so, we boost their employability, but also encourage them to contribute to an inclusive and sustainable society. Since we are located in the beautiful city of Maastricht, working interculturally is almost a given. Unfortunately, we do not use the untapped potential of our location. Why is it so difficult to work together across borders? Last week we joined two summits in Kerkrade and Maastricht to talk about this important topic. EURAM 25th Anniversary: The Founding of EURAM. Behind the scenes with Joan Enric Ricart, IESE Business School, Founding EURAM President 2001-2006 "In 1999, the director of the European Institute for Advanced Studies in Management director, Gerry Van Dyck, convened a group of scholars in Brussels to discuss if it was the time to create a EIASM Network (European Academy of Management), and the consensus was positive. One year later, we met again but nothing had started moving. I proposed organizing the launching conference in Barcelona at IESE Business School and a group of scholars integrated the organizing committee. In April 19-21 we hosted this conference in Barcelona with 320 participants. In the business meeting EURAM was launched, the statutes approved, I was elected President for 3 years and the whole organizing committee stayed as executive committee, with few changes and additions later on. I am of the opinion that the success of EURAM in the initial years was associated with diverse reasons. First, it was the right moment for Europe, and we had a very committed team of scholars. Second, we created a simple but very entrepreneurial organization. Everyone in the team had their area of responsibility and worked very autonomously. Furthermore, the initial governance only elected the President, and the rest could be nominated and had a lot of continuity. We focused a lot on the relations with other academies and Deans of business schools in Europe, with an extremely good international relations vice-president. We provided total autonomy to the conference organizers. As we did not have any funds, all the risk was on the conference chair, he or she should have freedom to organize the conference that fit their school, but this also allowed experimentation in formats and ideas, before a format was consolidated.
