It’s Giving Tuesday & You Have the Power to Change Lives Did you know? The average expectant mother considering adoption who connects with SOS is 26 years old. She is often already parenting one or more children, facing unimaginable pressure due to a lack of resources and support. At SOS, we know she isn’t “making a choice”—she's crying out for help. She is totally desperate and is trying to make adoption make sense. She has not found the resources, support or information she feels she needs to end the crisis. Adoption propaganda is real, and it’s everywhere. For so many families, the so-called “choice” to consider adoption stems from systemic failures, not a lack of love or desire to parent: Affordable housing waitlists in every state average 3 years, if they are even accepting applications. Access to essential resources like affordable childcare, transportation, and financial aid is critically limited for young and/or new families. These parents aren’t asking for a handout—they’re asking for a LIFELINE during one of the most vulnerable times of their lives. And here’s the truth: SOS has documented that expectant mothers who have connected with them need on average $3,500 to stabilize their situation and preserve their family, while the average cost of an infant adoption in the U.S. is a staggering $40,000 - and some adoption entities charge as much as $75,000. Imagine the Difference You Can Make For the cost of one adoption, 12 families could be preserved and supported through their crises. That means: 12 mothers would not face the lifelong ambiguous grief, guilt and shame. 12 infants would not be forced to endure their first life experience of trauma by maternal separation. 12 families could remain intact, breaking the cycle of multi-generational loss. 12 mothers and 12 infants would not need lifelong therapy the indu$try says they will need for the trauma inflicted on them. Countless siblings would never know the pain of being separated via adoption. How You Can Help? Every action you take—donating, volunteering, sharing your skills, or spreading awareness—helps us reach families before irrevocable decisions are made. Donate: https://lnkd.in/ejpCvPkd Volunteer: Register for our Sister On The Ground program. Share Your Skills: Reach out and let us know how you’d like to contribute! Spread Awareness: Share our message! You have the power to make a difference. We're setting a goal of $10,500 to help 3 families. Your donation is tax deductible. One donation. Three families. One future without trauma. #SavingOurSisters #FamilyPreservation #PreventFamilySeparation #ProMomandBaby #ProFamily #EthicalAdoptionIsFamilyPreservation #SupportFamilies #SupportNotSeparate #ReunificationFirst #EndUnnecessaryAdoption #YouCanMakeADifference #FightForResources #Volunteer #Charity #NonProfit #BootsOnTheGround #KnowBetterDoBetter #GivingTuesday

Adoption: My Dream for the Future 🌟 National Adoption Week has a special place in my heart. Unable to conceive naturally, my hope is to one day adopt and provide a nurturing home for a child in need. This week is a reminder of the impact that adoption can have, not just on children who find permanent, loving families, but also on those who open their hearts and homes. Adoption changes lives, and National Adoption Week is an opportunity to celebrate the positive stories from adoptive families. It's about educating the public on the process and encouraging people to consider adoption as a way to grow their families. Did you know that, in the UK, around 40,000 children are in need of a loving home? (Adoption UK, 2023). This week shines a light on these children and the families who welcome them. I hope to join the ranks of these inspiring families one day. This celebration highlights the importance of understanding and supporting the identity and history of adopted children. It honours the tireless work of social workers and agencies that make these beautiful transformations possible. Let's take this week to educate, share, and inspire one another to make a difference. #NationalAdoptionWeek #FamilyMatters #AdoptionAwareness

November is declared National Adoption Awareness Month. As systems flood us with fairytale stories about adoption, let’s remember that forced family separation isn’t a benevolent use of state power. Every day, parents are fighting to bring their babies home from the foster system. Yet, the dominant narrative is that their children are "unwanted" or "better off." Instead of providing meaningful support to parents, the system uses its resources to destroy families in the name of creating new ones. And adoptees are frequently told that they should be grateful, leaving little to no room to grieve what has been taken from them. This National Adoption Awareness Month and beyond, listen to the nuanced stories of adoptees. Many are reclaiming their names, their culture, and their history–and facilitating spaces of deep care to address ongoing harms. If you survived the family policing system as a child, check out this peer-led abolitionist support space hosted in partnership with Peer Support Space: bit.ly/survivorspss And if you want to learn more about adoption abolition, tune into an upcoming IG Live at @the_empress_han on December 10 at 8:30PM ET.

November is Adoption Awareness Month, and we’re honored to play a role in supporting families through every step of the adoption journey. This month, we want to share Noah’s story, a reminder of how our work can make a lasting difference in the lives of children and their families. When Noah came to us through a DCFS referral in 2021, he had already been in the care of his grandfather, Mr. Walker, since infancy due to his mother’s ongoing struggles with mental health. Over the past two years, our team at Family Focus has provided therapeutic services to Noah and Mr. Walker, helping to build a foundation of love, stability, and resilience. Through consistent support and counseling, we’ve witnessed transformative changes in their relationship. Mr. Walker’s dedication and Family Focus’ therapeutic services have created a positive environment where Noah can truly thrive. Now, they are on the verge of finalizing Noah’s adoption—marking the beginning of a secure and happy future together. In Illinois, there are currently 17,920 children in foster care, with 3,347 waiting to find their forever families. Many of these children may wait two or more years, and some may age out of the system without ever experiencing the joy of adoption. Family Focus is here to change that. Our adoption support services are designed to provide families like Noah and Mr. Walker with the guidance, resources, and encouragement they need to overcome challenges and build strong, lasting bonds. How can you make a difference? 1. Share this post to spread awareness about the 3,347 children in Illinois waiting for adoptive families. 2. Consider supporting Family Focus to help us continue providing crucial therapeutic services for families in need. 3. Learn more about adoption and how you can be part of a child’s journey to a brighter future. Help us ensure every child finds the love, support, and stability they deserve. #AdoptionAwarenessMonth #FamilyFocus #ForeverFamilies #SupportAdoption #TransformingLives

November is National Adoption Awareness Month! Over the next few weeks, I’ll celebrate by posting about some of the lesser-known or misunderstood aspects of adoption. Let’s start by recognizing the child’s role in adoption. At CONCERN - Professional Services for Children, Youth and Families, children are active participants in the adoption process. Their work begins in the Child Preparation phase, where our staff prepares them to make the transition from foster care to their forever home. The kids work through complex emotions including grief and loss, abandonment, identity, control, loyalty, attachment, and shame. We give them a voice in the process, honor their past, create connections, answer questions, and prepare for their future. We also employ a process called Child Specific Recruitment (CSR), which involves creating a plan for each child and working with prospective families to ensure appropriate matches. Children are asked for their input and help to create flyers and videos that highlight their strengths. In each of these steps, youth play an active role in finding their forever home. Adoption shouldn't be something that "happens" to a child. It should be an experience they help to facilitate. Adoption serves as a beacon of hope, offering solace and stability to children in need of loving homes. It provides a path to parenthood for individuals and couples who may not be able to conceive biologically. Beyond its role in creating families, adoption holds profound societal significance, fostering compassion, empathy, and inclusivity. First and foremost, adoption provides children with the opportunity to thrive in a nurturing environment. For those who may have experienced neglect, abuse, or abandonment, adoption offers a second chance at a happy, fulfilling childhood. It ensures that every child has the chance to grow up in a supportive family, surrounded by love and encouragement. Moreover, adoption transcends biological ties, emphasizing the essence of family as rooted in love rather than genetics. It celebrates the beauty of diversity, bringing together individuals from different backgrounds and cultures to form bonds that transcend bloodlines. In doing so, adoption promotes inclusivity and acceptance, fostering a more compassionate society. Furthermore, adoption empowers individuals and couples who may face infertility or reproductive challenges to realize their dreams of parenthood. It offers an alternative path to building a family, one that is characterized by resilience, determination, and unwavering love. Through adoption, parents have the opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the life of a child, while also experiencing the profound joys of parenthood. Beyond its personal significance, adoption holds broader societal implications. By providing children with stable, loving homes, adoption helps to break the cycle of poverty, abuse, and neglect. It strengthens communities by nurturing the next generation of empowered, resilient individuals who will contribute positively to society. In essence, adoption embodies the best of humanity—compassion, generosity, and unconditional love. It serves as a testament to our capacity for empathy and our commitment to ensuring that every child has the opportunity to thrive. As we celebrate the importance of adoption, let us reaffirm our dedication to building a world where every child is valued, cherished, and supported. Consortium Of Voluntary Adoption Agencies UK Limited is launching a new guide for prospective adopters today to encourage them to think about parenting a child with additional needs. Thanks to everyone on the working group, led by Elizabeth Crowhurst, and adopters who contributed to this work. Children with additional needs, which includes #disabilities, continue to wait longer for a match for #adoption than other children, which is why this guide may prove helpful. Our member adoption agencies, who are all across the UK, have extensive experience of supporting families and helping them to access support but the need for more adopters continues. https://lnkd.in/eKCik2sH
