I hope this isn't using LLMs or any other form of Generative AI. It probably is, which makes it unsafe and unreliable. This is intriguing but complicated. How is the AI trained and sourced? What training data does it use. What system or company is behind the tech stack? What are the guardrails? And most importantly, who is liable? If this is a Gen AI product, then when it inevitably counsels someone to KILL THEMSELVES, and it will because these have already, and if they do successfully, then who is liable? If this is a Gen AI product, then when it inevitably counsels someone to KILL ANOTHER, and it will because these have already, and if they do successfully, then who is liable?

Yahoo/Reuters: "'Liv' the AI avatar wants people with dementia to not feel alone"
"
STORY: “Hello there. My name is Liv.”
This artificial intelligence-powered avatar was developed to offer a lifeline for people living with Alzheimer’s and dementia.
Liv is built on the real-life experiences and wisdom of hundreds of people living with the condition.
The goal is for Liv to offer up assurance and advice, and respond to questions with information drawn directly from first-hand experiences.
“I understand that living with dementia can sometimes feel confusing, but you don't have to navigate it alone.”
An estimated 55 million people worldwide are currently living with dementia.
That number is expected to reach 139 million by 2050, according to British dementia charity, Alzheimer's Society.
It affects cognitive function, impacting memory, thinking, behavior, and the ability to perform everyday tasks.
“The technology is not set out to be a companion or a therapist.”
Steve Milton is a director at Innovations in Dementia, one of the collaborators on the project alongside tech company Lenovo and Exeter University."

Use of AI in "Medically Unexplained Symptoms"...
Yes it can be a really useful tool - paired with optimising lifestyle for the individual and additional support - MUS often stem from a blend of issues that are rarely picked up in the NHS - such as chronic Lyme disease, Mycotoxin, heavy metal poisoning, susceptible genes, co-infections such as Borrelia, and intestinal permeability syndrome. Personal and generational trauma often also contributes.
Chat GPT can help, but it's a complex world - that's what I love about functional medicine, being able to go deep & tease out the underlying causes.
Thank you AI - I am so glad to be living in this generation!

Generative AI and Medically Unexplained Symptoms - a marriage made in heaven, or just another complexity in the lives of this underserved patient group?
I’ll be talking about this subject a little later today at the Forgotten Patients: Overlooked Diseases event here in Limehouse. Having been primed by a brilliant meal last night, I’m focussing on the patients themselves.

AI: Bridging Technology and Human Connection
Last week I came across a story on X https://lnkd.in/gvq9Tmfr that deeply moved me. U.S. Representative Jennifer Wexton of Virginia, who is living with progressive supranuclear palsy (PSP), collaborated with ElevenLabs to create an AI-generated replica of her own voice to address the United States Congress during Disability Pride Month. Upon hearing the AI version of her voice, Rep. Wexton shared, "I cried happy tears when I first heard it."
As someone passionate about AI and dedicated to exploring how it can enhance efficiency, solve problems, and alleviate the daily grind, this story gave me a moment to reflect. This wasn’t merely about increasing productivity—it was about transforming lives in the most meaningful way.
This story is especially meaningful to me personally. My partner is living with Hereditary Spastic Paraplegia, a challenging condition that not only affects her mobility but also threatens her ability to communicate in the future. The possibility that AI could enable her to create a replica of her spoken voice, allowing her to communicate freely despite physical limitations, fills me with hope. It highlights that beyond the metrics of efficiency and productivity, AI holds the potential to enhance our humanity and expand opportunities for those facing significant challenges.
Stories like Rep. Wexton’s inspire me to continue advocating for and developing AI solutions that make a real, heartfelt difference in people’s lives. Together, we can harness technology not just for progress, but for profound personal impact.

Can AI help us embrace our past selves? A new trend is emerging that's both fascinating and potentially therapeutic. 💖
I came across a remarkable AI-generated video showing older celebrities hugging their younger selves.
This AI-generated "self-hug" 🤗 concept creates interesting possibilities:
* Therapeutic potential: Visualizing your older self embracing your younger self could be a powerful tool for self-acceptance and healing past traumas.
* Reminiscence: For elders including those with dementia, seeing themselves interact with their younger selves might trigger positive memories and emotions. 🌟
* Intergenerational empathy: These visualizations could allow younger individuals to connect with their future selves, promoting long-term thinking in health and lifestyle choices.
Running the largest AI-powered caregiving platform, CareYaya is always exploring how to integrate such innovations to improve care and quality-of-life.
The potential to enhance emotional connections and self-understanding is immense.
What are your thoughts on this AI trend? Can you see other potential benefits?
Sinor, an active senior platform, launched its innovative AI companionship service, '79 Call.' This service aims to address the social isolation often experienced by seniors by providing a friendly AI companion that they can easily reach out to via phone.
When users call, the AI companion 'Kim Si-yeon' greets them with familiar questions like, "What did you do today?" The AI's advanced understanding allows for natural conversations, eliminating the awkward pauses and overly formal responses typically associated with AI interactions.
A standout feature of '79 Call' is its long-term memory, which enables the AI to remember past conversations and engage users with relevant questions, fostering a sense of connection and care. This memory capability allows the AI to provide support akin to that of a true friend.
Currently, '79 Call' is available with two personas: Korean 'Kim Si-yeon' and American 'Amy Williams.' Sinor aims to cater to seniors living abroad or those facing cultural isolation, recognizing the unique challenges they encounter.
CEO Kim Min-ji emphasized the growing importance of providing mental and emotional support to the senior generation in an aging society. She noted that '79 Call' is designed to address this need by serving as a genuine companion in their daily lives.

mpathic is proud to announce it has received a grant from the National Institutes of Health Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) program in collaboration with Wave , which will support our work in addressing racial bias in healthcare. With this effort, we aim to understand and significantly reduce the barriers that racial and ethnic minorities face when seeking mental health services.
Leading our research is Dr. Alison Cerezo, mpathic's SVP of Research & Health Equity, whose work is grounded in the integration of clinical expertise and cultural insight. "There are ways that people are developing apps off the cuff, which can be dangerous and scary," Dr. Cerezo explains. "We recognize the barriers that prevent providers from delivering quality care. Therefore, this project is one of our strategies to integrate solutions into systems, ensuring that AI can benefit both providers and patients effectively."
The transformative potential of generative AI in enhancing access to care is immense, provided it is developed with consideration and responsibility. In partnership with Wave, we are establishing enhanced conversation analytics that accurately capture the essence of culturally competent communication. The anonymized data provided by Wave plays a crucial role in refining our models to achieve these objectives.
Echoing this commitment to innovation, Sarah Adler, PsyD from Wave emphasizes the necessity for advancements in generative AI to have clinical validity at their core, signaling the potential of such technology to fundamentally change mental health services.
We appreciate Healthcare Innovation and journalist David Raths for featuring our joint initiative.

🚨 New Startup Alert! 🚨
How can we truly understand what our newborns are trying to tell us? 🤔
Zoundream, which has been selected to join our Fall 2024 cohort at Level 3, harnesses the power of advanced AI and sound recognition technology to decode and translate the cries of newborns.
Key Features:
🤖 AI-Powered Cry Analysis: Zoundream employs sophisticated AI algorithms trained on vast datasets of baby cries. These algorithms can discern subtle differences in cry patterns, accurately translating a baby's needs—be it hunger, fatigue, discomfort, or something else.
⏱️ Real-Time Translation: Their technology provides real-time insights into a newborn’s cries, allowing parents and caregivers to receive instant feedback. This helps them understand what their baby is experiencing, significantly reducing the stress and uncertainty often experienced during those early months.
However, Zoundream goes beyond addressing basic needs. their system supports the early detection of potential neurodevelopmental disorders and pathologies, such as autism, specific language impairments, hearing disorders, hyperactivity, or sudden infant death among others. This enables the identification of anomalies that could indicate underlying health concerns, facilitating timely medical intervention and support. 👶🩺
