My first job in healthcare was healthcare adjacent: I was a camp counselor at Camp Sweeney. I had the experience of living with 24 kids who were learning to live with Type 1 diabetes. That experience re-shaped the vision I had to work in politics because it allowed me to see that a career could also be mission-driven; it also led me to really understand how technology could be help or a hindrance to the lives of patients. Fast forward twenty plus years later... I am thrilled to share that I am joining Hummingbird Healthcare. There are tons of amazing thoughts I can share with you about why, but I will share my quick version here: The Hummingbird Healthcare team is actively thinking about how to solve major challenges facing healthcare: access issues, technology concerns, staffing challenges, etc. I believe that many of these challenges can be meaningfully addressed by bringing folks with experience and passion to help healthcare groups leverage their technology in a meaningful way. And I believe that incredibly complex technology solutions like Epic deserve great support to ensure that access, technology, and staffing can work to improve the lives of patients and the clinicians who see them. We must aim for solutions that integrate seamlessly into our healthcare systems, ensuring lasting and meaningful change. 🏥 𝟮. By focusing on these, we address the workforce crisis and build towards a resilient healthcare system. 👩🔧 𝟯. 𝗠𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝗜𝘁 𝗘𝗮𝘀𝘆 𝘁𝗼 𝗗𝗼 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗥𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝗧𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴: Incentivize the right actions, not just gaming the system. Providing structured, accurate data and rewarding good practices directly impacts patient outcomes and builds true value. 🗂 𝟰. 𝗨𝘁𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘇𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗗𝗮𝘁𝗮: Vast amounts of data collected in hospitals often go unused. 𝗟𝗲𝗮𝗱 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗖𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗮𝗯𝗼𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲: The COVID-19 crisis showed us the power of leadership and collaboration. Today, we must foster a culture that values learning and continuous improvement, moving beyond a fear of regulation and punishment. 🗣 𝟲. 𝗪𝗲 𝗔𝗿𝗲 𝗔𝗹𝗹 𝗣𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀: Ultimately, we are building a better healthcare system for ourselves and our loved ones. Let’s remember that we are all patients at some point, and strive to create a system that we can trust and rely on.
