New EIA data shows that for 20 years, the cost of producing electricity has been falling, but the cost of transmission and distribution has been going up – especially on the distribution side. Fundamentally, distributed energy resources and microgrids are, and will be, essential for powering economic growth. https://lnkd.in/eMAY_grj

The Department of Energy has awarded a $15 billion conditional loan guarantee to Pacific Gas & Electric (PG&E), marking a significant step in California's transition to clean energy. The loan will help PG&E expand its hydropower and battery storage capacity, upgrade its transmission network, and enable virtual power plants (VPPs) across its service area. This investment aligns with California’s efforts to lower electricity costs and enhance grid reliability, while utilizing grid-enhancing technologies (GETs) that could save developers millions. While the funding aims to reduce energy costs, debates around the potential impact on rates continue, with concerns over the incentives for private utilities. However, PG&E’s focus on job creation, community benefits, and clean energy expansion demonstrates its commitment to a sustainable future. 🌱 PG&E Secures $15 Billion Loan to Advance Clean Energy in California ⚡ https://lnkd.in/dKpTmBuq #CleanEnergy #BatteryStorage #Hydropower #California #RenewableEnergy #VirtualPowerPlants #EnergyTransition

Ontario’s bold plans for energy have made headlines in recent months as the province prepares to meet growing requirements, and that includes challenging the proposed Clean Energy Regulations (CER) outlined by the federal government. According to IESO’s 2025 Annual Planning Outlook (APO), demand for electricity in the province is projected to increase by up to 75 per cent by 2050. This is a 15 per cent increase from the 2024 APO, and will be driven primarily by industrial and commercial sectors, including data centre growth, the needs of an increasing population and electrification. Ontario is prepared to meet this challenge through an “all-of-the-above” approach to energy planning and procurement.
