In this week’s #AskAnAttorney segment, we asked Helix Regional Director, Arti S., Esq.: What's the best studying method for exams – flashcards or outlines? “It depends,” said Arti. “One misconception students may have is that they need to use strategies and tools that tend to be ‘traditional’ methods of studying.” Arti recommends that students should determine what works for them, whether it's: ◾ Studying in a library or coffee shop, ◾ Using tools like flashcards or pre-made outlines, or ◾ Writing a song to remember a rule. “Do what resonates with you and maximizes your ability to not only retain but UNDERSTAND the law.” Remember, no matter which method you go with, Helix has you covered with Flashcard Sets, free Law School Mini-Outlines, and a suite of superior resources. Up your studying game (and #barprep strategy) with Helix – learn more today!

I posted about this a week ago regarding my lawsuit against my law school Golden Gate to keep it open. The hearing date is set! I know I have the support of the students and Alumni against University President David Fike who has bankrupted the last two schools he worked at Holy Names in Oakland and Marysgrove College in Detroit. Here are some news stories about the lawsuit FYI. https://lnkd.in/g8N-cukt ; https://lnkd.in/gmD8P74w https://lnkd.in/gEpXzqf4 Then the hearing information is below FYI. I believe very strongly in this and I usually come out on top when I am this fired up, which is rare. Of course we will see what happens. The date for the demurrer (motion to dismiss) hearing is set on MONDAY JUNE 3, 2024, at 9:30 a.m. in Department 302 of the San Francisco Superior Court Civil Courthouse at 400 McAllister Street. Judge Ulmer will Preside over the hearing. I have read the demurrer and I personally do not think it is very good. It is public FYI on the court website, which you can search by case name Fike, David or use the case number CGC-24-612353 using his link https://lnkd.in/gWf4t5Za . Of course, my personal opinion means little in how the motion will be decided. I am personally a bit surprised Gordon & Rees is even brining a demurrer, which Plaintiffs win most of the time regardless of merit. Of course, getting the injunction and hopefully receivership is where the real win will come. However, if we win this it will be a major black eye for Fike and GGU leadership. The proceeding is public, and I will be in person. It would be great if as many supporters as possible could join me on Monday June 3, 2024, at 9:30 a.m. in San Francisco. I am hoping you use the street fighting, relentless, Rocky like litigation skills I learned at GGU to take down Gordon & Rees and the horrifically bad leadership at GGU. STIPULATION WITH COURT FYI Dear Clerk: Mark Posard, René I. Gamboa, and Robert Fleming Ill, counsel for Golden Gate University and David Fike, are requesting that the Court continue the hearing date on the demurrer filed on behalf of Golden Gate University and David Fike. The demurrer was filed in the case titled Stephen Downs, et al. v. David J. Fike; Golden Gate University, SF Superior Court, Case No. CGC-24-612353. The demurrer is currently set for hearing on May 24, 2024, at 9:30 a.m., in Department 302. Counsel for Defendants and counsel for Plaintiffs Ryan Griffith have discussed the continuance of the hearing date on the demurrer and have agreed to continue the hearing date from May 24, 2024 to June 3, 2024. Consequently, all parties affected by the motion have agreed to the new date. Thank you for your assistance.

📚 Mastering Legal Analysis: A Guide to FIRAC for 1L Students 🏛️ Hey 1Ls and Incoming Students! Diving into case law can be daunting, but mastering the FIRAC method will sharpen your legal analysis skills and prepare you for success in law school and beyond. Here’s a quick breakdown of how to apply FIRAC in your case studies: 𝟏. 𝐅𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐬 - Identify and summarize the key facts: who, what, where, and when. - Focus on details crucial for understanding the legal issues. - Keep descriptions objective and fact-based. 𝟐. 𝐈𝐬𝐬𝐮𝐞𝐬 - Determine the specific legal questions the case addresses. - Frame these as questions the court needs to answer, like “Did the defendant breach their duty of care?” 𝟑. 𝐀𝐧𝐚𝐥𝐲𝐬𝐢𝐬 - Apply the rule to the facts. Discuss how the elements of the law are met or not met. - Use logical reasoning, supported by legal authorities or precedents. 𝟒. 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐜𝐥𝐮𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧 - Clearly state the resolution—favoring which party or noting if determination is unclear. 𝟓. 𝐑𝐮𝐥𝐞 - Find the rule determined by the court. - What is the answer to the issue the court wants to address? 👩⚖️ FIRAC isn’t just a method; it’s a skill set. Each step helps you build a solid foundation in legal reasoning that will benefit your exams and your future legal practice. ➡️ Have you used FIRAC in your studies yet? Share your first experiences or any tips you’ve found helpful! #1Ls #Lawschool #lawstudent #incominglawstudent #studyingtips #lawyer
