I am proud of Congress for recognizing the threat posed by TBI and blast overpressure. Many of the injuries suffered by service members in the past 20 years were preventable with proper training and equipment. I will throw myself in with those affected by this common GWOT injury. For the past 16 years, I served in Special Forces units where blast was just part of the job. Before that, I was a Combat Engineer, and likewise, we “ate a lot of charges.” We sometimes knew better, but often we were just doing what needed to be done at the time. As we look at how to do better, we can look at some great tech that DARPA helped develop to track exposure (https://lnkd.in/e_EUxAVD), and there are some companies making awesome simulators to reduce cumulative overpressure during training (https://lnkd.in/euurnita). Future combat may very well usher in overpressure injuries on a scale not seen in a century. We need to prepare now to prevent the blast injuries, track them when they happen, provide rapid intervention, and to prepare for long term care and treatment. I can’t thank National Intrepid Center of Excellence (NICoE) enough for their support and treatment. I hope the longterm resources are there to support the next generation of warriors. I am one of the individuals who felt the impact of General Ogolla's passing, despite not having known him personally. I closely followed his funeral service and was deeply touched by his daughter's speech, from which I drew several valuable lessons: 1. Strive for excellence and let your accomplishments speak for themselves. 2. Cultivate your spiritual side; it serves as your anchor. 3. Embrace humility, as exemplified by General Ogolla, who was described as remarkably modest and unpretentious, embodying leadership without the need for a formal title. Rest in peace, General Ogolla!

Final Thoughts and Recommendations and the Primary Reserves This will mosdef be my last posting on the Reserves (I promise). I received so many comments and writings from trusted members, I had no choice. I should comment that I have NO AUTHORITY in these writings or to make change but I am confident in what I write. I did not manage to speak to many of the CO’s or Div Comd’s so take that into consideration as well. This is what I found: 1. As previously stated, the PRes needs a mission or missions. Supporting and augmenting the Reg Force is good but units could and should be tasked to provide not only combat capable support but also Combat support capabilites. While I recognize that this was already tried and resulted in failure, I contend that it should be tried once more. 2. The PRes needs to consider its background and establishment with both thought and purpose. Renaming, reconnecting and being training in line with their assignments and geography must occur. 3. The PRes needs TAVs (Training Assistance Visits) and there needs to be better connections between the PRes and the Business Communities within which they exist. https://lnkd.in/grK-DwZs
