All roads lead home. To HBO's Silicon Valley, that is. Radio On Internet. ROI. I had a call today with someone (no, it wasn't Russ Hammond). And it wasn't actually about Radio On Internet. Or, even Return On Investment. Instead it was about #v2g, you know Vehicle To Grid. Numerous companies are and have experimented with V2G as a business model, especially in captive fleets like school bus fleets. Nuvve Holding Corp. , General Motors, Driivz etc come to mind. But how was this chimeric notion born? To quote an IEEE Spectrum article from 2023 by Matthew Eisler "In 2001, a team of engineers at a then-obscure R&D company called AC Propulsion quietly began a groundbreaking experiment. They wanted to see whether an electric vehicle could feed electricity back to the grid. The experiment seemed to prove the feasibility of the technology. The company’s president, Tom Gage, dubbed the system 'vehicle to grid' or V2G." Matthew concludes, "A strong V2G patron has yet to emerge. Nevertheless, the idea of an off-the-shelf energy storage unit that also provides transportation and pays for itself is likely to remain attractive enough to sustain ongoing interest." Anyway, as my interlocutor discussed plans for a new software stack that was sure to pave the way for V2G, I found myself hearing Russ Hammond's voice and musing on the fate of Pied Piper. https://lnkd.in/eHqwRpF5
