Dynautics, having developed control systems for a wide variety of surface and subsurface vessels, is diving into the methods and technologies for controlling wave propelled craft. 🌊 Using wave energy for propulsion is beneficial for the environment, enabling net-zero emissions and increasing the range on USV and UUV expeditions, as the vessels are essentially surrounded by their fuel, perfect for persistence, long-term missions. In the full article, Dynautics goes on to outline: 💡 Optimizing Limited Energy Supply ⚓️ Efficiency and Resilience ♻️ Zero Carbon Data Collection Dynautics’ bespoke ‘power generation controller’ — designed for the company’s long-term partner AutoNaut — manages battery charging from photovoltaic panels and the power supply for instruments and communications. It is designed to provide remotely monitored and remotely resettable circuit breakers which swiftly protect the system in the event of overload in any circuit. 🔗 Find out more >> https://hubs.la/Q02xmdxY0 Find out more on the Ocean Science & Technology website. #subsea #technology #navigation #propulsion #environment

#towhomitmayconcern : The patent https://lnkd.in/gFesNkZY reveals a comprehensive universality for fluid machines serving different purposes. https://lnkd.in/esYZEH5w The scope of the invention relates to embodiment of hull integrated propulsion systems, #resship, to rotary wing aircraft, #resaircraft, to wind turbines, #reswindpower as well as to water turbines. The video clip shows a hull-integrated propulsion system for a container ship, in which four electrically driven propulsion units are integrated into a drive channel of the ship's hull extending from bow to stern. An electric motor is arranged coaxially and concentrically to the vertical axis of the rotor, driving four variable rotor blades of the rotor on a circular orbit. The orbit has a diameter with two reversing points, which can be aligned perpendicular to any direction of travel within a radius of 360 degrees where the suction side of the variable rotor blades changes from the inward side to the outward side of the rotors orbit and vice versa. When the ship starts up, vertical flow through the cylindrical vessel is ensured by four upper and four lower rotor blade vanes. With the RES-Flushed Propulsion System, the rotor blades rotate in a vessel whose outer shell is shaped as the stub of a symmetrical wing profile and whose inner shell is cylindrical in shape. An inlet port for the flow is provided at the upper end of the wing stub on the pressure side, and an outlet port for the flow caused by the ship's speed is provided at the lower end in the dead-water region of the wing stub. As a result, the cylindrical vessel is flushed vertically such that, firstly, the formation of a circulation flow within the vertical water column is avoided, and secondly as to prevent an unfavorable superposition of the cruising speed with the rotational speed of the rotor. Therefore, the four variable rotor blades, which can be adjusted by internal actuators, generate significantly more thrust in the direction of travel than any ship propeller. #carbonneutral #climatechange #shipping #logistics #asktheinventor #respropulsion #shipbuilding #logistics #containership #resflushedpropulsion www.res-institute.com

Which motor is made for you? 🤔 1) The BlueSpin Outboard is designed to attach to the transom of a boat and requires no structural modification. Its retractability allows to preserve the original performance of the boat when operating in combustion engine mode. The electric motor’s turbine is designed to retract depending on the selected navigation mode. It is retracted to limit energy losses when the internal combustion engines are in use and then lowered when switching to electric mode. 2) The BlueSpin Inhull is designed to integrate inside the hull of a boat. The turbine of the electric motor is designed to retract depending on the chosen navigation mode. It is concealed in the hull to limit energy losses when the thermal engines or sails are used and lowered when switching to electric mode. 3) BlueSpin Stationary is designed to be mounted under the hull of a boat, and its installation requires no structural modification. Noise Control Engineering is supporting a study for the Maritime Administration (MARAD)'s META program to analyze the potential for underwater noise reductions through the use of battery-electric propulsion systems on vessels. For the study, our team collected underwater noise data from three tugs in San Diego Harbor: two with conventional diesel-geared propulsion and a new vessel with battery-electric propulsion. The data will be processed to commercial standards, allowing for an overall assessment of noise and comparison to other vessels for a range of operating conditions. We are also identifying the sources of noise on board the tugs and how/why battery-electric vessels may be quieter than their diesel-geared counterparts. NCE is proud to be part of this effort to assess the co-benefits of low-emission designs and their potential to reduce impacts to marine life. #noisecontrolengineering #sustainable #underwaternoise

Deep Dive into a Vessel's Heart! Got a chance to get a deep dive into the heart of a vessel's propulsion system today! Analyzed the configuration of the dual main engines and twin generators, impressed by their design and efficiency. Examined the oily water separator, a crucial component for environmental protection, understanding its critical role in keeping our oceans clean. Also closely inspected various other engine room machinery, gaining a deeper appreciation for the complexity of these marine marvels. Fascinating to see how these systems work together to keep the vessel running smoothly. #marineengineering #shiplife #vesselinspection Voyage Marine Group Voyage Marine Automation Voyage Institute of Technology

Modern boxboats are installing "wind deflectors" as a method of reducing aerodynamic resistance in headwinds. #Container ships are about as aerodynamic as a twin-bread toaster, so wind deflectors can reduce fuel consumption, improve speed for a given shaft RPM, and thereby reduce carbon emissions. This helps shipowners make steps towards the International Maritime Organization's #netzero targets. This #vessel is "ONE Trust" owned by Ocean Network Express. #maritime #engineering #energy #navalarchitecture

Wind-assisted propulsion refers to the use of wind power to assist in propelling a vessel, typically a ship. This can include traditional sails, as well as more modern technologies like kite sails, Flettner rotors, or wingsails. The goal is to reduce fuel consumption and emissions by harnessing the power of the wind alongside traditional propulsion methods.
