We’re proud to support Mirror Image Arts in their nonprofit mission to disrupt the pipeline to prison in Colorado — as part of our ongoing DEI commitment. Theresa Mazza and the entire crew are smart, committed, professional and talented at their jobs. The work they do is inspiring and eye-opening. Here’s what their organization does, in their own words: We are disrupting the Pipeline to Prison throughout the Greater Denver Metropolitan Area. The pipeline is a charged and complicated issue, affecting youth everywhere we operate. The United States persists in incarcerating children and youth despite overwhelming evidence of its ineffectiveness in steering them away from further system involvement. Although the number of youths arrested and incarcerated has declined significantly between 2000 and 2020, the decline is not spread equitably across all demographics. Children of color are especially vulnerable to overcriminalization and therefore overrepresented on every front. Of the 265,600 children arrested in the United States in 2021, 1 in 3 were Black children, though Black children constitute only 15% of the nation’s youth population. Mirror Image Arts utilizes Restorative Theatre™, positive youth development, and trauma-informed and restorative approaches to disrupt this pipeline. We work with youth (ages 7-21) in schools, diversion programs, and juvenile detention centers. Through our work we aim to: Provide youth a safe, caring relationship with a trusted adult. Co-create spaces of belonging where youth AND youth-serving adults can build self-awareness, connection and empathy. Offer youth-supported spaces where they can process their emotions, practice bold decision-making, and reflect on the results of their choices. Role model for youth how resilience can be expressed so they can navigate difficult social situations and come back stronger. Assist schools and youth detention centers in their move from punitive disciplinary practices toward positive youth development and healing-centered engagement.

**Ready to Roll: Help Us Find Our Home!** The Black Flag is ready to launch the Building Futures Initiative, but we need your help to clear the final roadblock: finding a physical location. We've been ready for a minute and a half, with half of what we need already in storage and waiting for a destination. This isn't just a one-off project; it's the first of many oddball, but useful endeavors by The Black Flag. We're all about doing whatever the fuck we feel like doing, not being tied to one purpose. Right now, the non-monetary gift of real estate – whether as an outright donation or just tenancy in exchange for 501(c)(3) benefits – is much more preferable to cash. Cash to purchase or lease is always appreciated, but what we need at this moment is a target destination to stay on schedule. If you have leads or know someone who can help us get a conversation started with an interested owner or broker, that would be fucking amazing. We're looking for a facility of approximately 4,000 to 5,000 sq ft (interior). This size fits our current network stack and Cat6 riser capabilities as we churn out grant applications and take advantage of a badass discount on an infrastructure refresh we just came upon. Behind this initiative is a network of compassionate individuals, organizations, and volunteers who believe in making a difference, one act of kindness at a time. It's about reminding those who feel overlooked that they are seen, valued, and supported. In the past four months since taking the helm at Patriot Services Group (PSG), we’ve made significant strides in transforming our approach to business. Typically, companies set normal expectations, yet often overpromise and underdeliver. Through this transition, I've recognized that an overly bureaucratic structure can stifle efficiency and disconnect a company from the needs of its clients. To address this, we've shifted to direct management of our assets in Illinois and Kentucky, following a successful model we implemented in West Virginia. Just one month into self-management there, we achieved the highest monthly collections in the asset’s history. I am eagerly anticipating similar successes in Mississippi and Louisiana, and I'm optimistic about what June will bring for Kentucky and Illinois. Over these months, PSG has strategically partnered with local businesses rather than large corporations, which is a common choice among corporate managers. This not only supports our community but also aligns with our commitment to creating local jobs, developing programs for nonprofit communities, and continuing our core mission of supporting homeless veterans. Looking ahead, we are excited about upcoming initiatives, including a rebranding effort, the standardization of processes, and the launch of new housing programs tailored to our mission. Additionally, we are planning to expand our assets into new states soon. While this story pertains to a parish in Florida, I am currently working with the Dallas Diocese to help them in mitigating various physical, data and reputational risks -- hopefully 'not' like this. I'm sure this fell under the Diocese's thought process of "surely, one of our priests would never do something like _______." That's the mistake of too many in #management and #administration today, they "assume" instead of teach or train in order to "know" their people would not (fill in the blank). But also, #churches not unlike other #nonprofits face unique challenges as they obviously rely upon the public's support for their work, hence anything that potentially puts them in a bad light related to #reputationmanagement can also impact their operations and funding. #nonprofitmanagement professionals can attest to the same.
