Schoenherr experts Bernd Rajal and Patrick Barabas recently co-authored a chapter in the magazine Nachhaltigkeitsrecht, published by LexisNexis Österreich, focusing on the electricity market reform. Their contribution examines the integration of energy communities into Austrian energy law through the #Renewable Energy Expansion Act (#EAG) package. Since its adoption, renewable energy communities and citizen energy communities have played an increasingly significant role in decentralized #energy generation and supply. A comprehensive revision of electricity market design aims to further simplify the establishment and management of energy communities. The draft of the new Electricity Industry Act (#ElWG) builds on practical experience gained so far and introduces noteworthy legal advancements for energy communities. Contracts for Difference (“CfDs”) are increasingly seen as the method of choice for incentivising private investment in renewable power projects and new clean energy technologies, vitally important to the energy transition. Understanding CfDs will be critical for corporates and industrial players involved in energy transition projects, to PE and infrastructure firms that may find them an attractive way to manage investment in the clean energy space, and to law firms that support investments into energy transition projects. https://lnkd.in/ggs8BEmn #ContractsForDifference #CfDs #renewableenergy #hydrogen #energytransition

Great that we have arrived at this point with osmotic energy as a net zero technology in EU. We need all the green energy we can produce to make the energy transition happen.

With support from the U.S. Department of State - Bureau of Energy Resources' (ENR) Power Sector Program, NARUC attended the 2024 Washington Energy Seminar to give an overview of global power markets and the energy sector expertise that our International Programs bring to both U.S. government officials and the global community of regulators. We covered topics such as the purpose of utility regulation; the role of the regulator; and how ENR is promoting the integration of renewable energy sources through providing the necessary regulatory tools, frameworks, and oversight for regulatory partners worldwide. NARUC is currently working in 11 countries worldwide to support ENR’s Power Sector Program goals to promote clean energy, regional power market development, and regulatory capacity building. #energysector #utilities #regulation #renewableenergy

Woodside welcomes today’s statement from Australian Industry Group (Ai Group) and others which acknowledges that the Australian Energy Market Operator’s Integrated System Plan (ISP) “is the best roadmap we have for the National Electricity Market.” The ISP “confirms that renewable energy connected with transmission and distribution, firmed with storage, and backed up by gas-powered generation is the lowest-cost way to supply electricity to homes and businesses as Australia transitions to a net zero economy.” Like Ai Group, Woodside believes Australia needs a “certain, credible and consistent policy framework” for our energy systems. We remain ready to work with governments, industry and communities to urgently implement policy settings that will ensure all Australians have access to reliable supplies of gas and energy.
