You've spent all this time learning Latin...isn't it time to read something interesting? For capable and seasoned students who still retain a sense of fun, this course focuses on the range and variety of Latin lyric poetry through the works of Catullus (humorous, allusive, and changeable) and Horace (often more serious, but equally brilliant). Our goal here is to appreciate the works as poetry on their own, as well as examples of the Latin language, building on the poetical foundations we began to build in Latin IV (Caesar and Vergil) Between them the two poets encompass an astounding range of tonality and temperament. The course follows the College Board’s now-extinct curriculum for AP Latin Literature (Catullus was required; Horace was selected from a list of options). While that AP exam is no longer being offered, its material remains timeless and engaging. Courses are fully accredited by MSA-CESS.

@AAIS Sorrento 2024 Marco Marino proposed the always stimulating panel called Leggere non basta. Why is the act of reading not enough to transform a literature class in a stimulating class? Why literature is perceived by students as a distant world? As a scholar and professor of literature and didactics of literature, my investigation implies at least this question: how can we transform the literature class in a meaningful experience? Maybe by experiencing images, sounds, and emotions embodied in the texts. Chandra Livia Candiani offered me an opportunity to rethink how to differently teach literature and poetry.

"I value how Nye’s work encourages readers of all ages to connect to their own life experiences, and at the same time gently insists that they embrace the wider world with compassion for the lives of others." From the Archive: In honor of Arab-American History Month, we're taking a look back at Merna Ann Hecht's exploration of Naomi Shihab Nye's work in the classroom. Using Nye's poetry as a mentor text, Hecht teaches students both how to explore their own experiences and empathy for others while writing about the world. 📚 Literature's importance from my Perspective : 💫The cornerstone of life is literature. Stories about the ever-popular quest for love are among the numerous subjects it emphasizes, including human tragedies. 💐The mind's imagination and its capacity to understand the text's complexity or simplicity allow the words that are physically written to come to life. ☘️Fiction serves as a window into the world as perceived by others because it allows readers to see through the eyes of other people and occasionally even inanimate objects. It's an adventure captured in words and driven by the reader's imagination. 🌄The reader can ultimately learn about life events through literature, from the saddest to the happiest tales. #Literature #Philosophy #English #Imagination #Fiction #Read #Reader #Life #People
