📚 Alongside the Childrens Book Project, we have launched a fantastic initiative to repurpose old books and support children's literacy 📚 We are creating book bins to place in various businesses, making it easy to donate your pre-loved books to a great cause. Once the bins are full, we will collect and redistribute them, giving these books a new life and fostering a love of reading in children. The Childrens Book Project is a charity that makes a real difference in local communities, providing resources and support to parents and children. Their book repurposing program not only promotes education and literacy but also helps families save money on books – a win-win for everyone! Nearly 1 million children in the UK don't own a single book*. For a child, not having access to books means missing out on the joys of storytelling, the adventure of new worlds, and the learning opportunities that reading brings. Research shows that early childhood is a critical period for brain development, and reading plays a central role in that growth. Yet, many families are unable to provide this vital resource, affecting children's future success in life. This is why we are launching a fundraising campaign to increase our book stock for children. If you are able to donate just £6, we can buy a children's book that could benefit hundreds of children. Thank you for helping us to change someone's story. https://lnkd.in/ekFWuHru (*National Literacy Trust, 2023) #librarieschangelives #readingforpleasure #libraries #fundraising #childrensbooks

To all of my fabulous network, if you are still considering your Charitable (tax deductable) donations for this EOFY please consider Down Syndrome WA. You can donate at their mycause site: https://lnkd.in/gRPwFMjP Or scan the QR code below We have a diverse funding model, with some grants, philanthropy, donations and we deliver important fee for service work, but with all of that, covering $250k of overheads a year stretches us and we rely on community generosity as we don't receive operational funding. All of our funds are tied to outcome delivery, leaving us to cover the gaps. We would love your help to support our members. During an observation session at a school, I observed something that surprised me. Children were required to write their names on the materials using marker pens. One child didn't have a marker pen and asked for help, but none of the other children offered to assist. When I questioned why they wouldn't help, they said it was because their ink levels would decrease if they did. I was shocked by this response. As a parent, I believe it's important to teach children to share and help others. With the isolation they face, they are becoming increasingly narrow-minded. The best way to address this is by setting an example for them by practicing these values ourselves. We can encourage sharing and helping by: - Encouraging them to contribute to charities - Praising them when they share - Encouraging them to donate their old belongings Empathy and the willingness to help others are essential values for children and are what make us human. How would you inculcate these values in your children? #practills #valueeducation #empathy #sharing #children #communicationskills
