It reduces flooding by allowing rainwater to drain directly into the ground or designated storage systems. Designed for low-traffic areas, it also filters contaminants like oil, offering environmental benefits. However, it requires maintenance to prevent blockages and is less durable under heavy use. 🛑Topmix Permeable is generally not suitable for snowy or icy conditions. In areas where sand or salt is used for de-icing, the material can become clogged, reducing its permeability. Additionally, repeated freeze-thaw cycles in snowy climates may damage the porous structure over time, leading to durability concerns. As overnight temperatures begin to drop and cold weather concreting becomes a concern, proper protection and curing are increasingly critical for ensuring long-term durability. Even the best placement and finishing techniques cannot compensate for poor #concrete curing. In Ontario, municipalities typically have three options for curing concrete in cold weather conditions: 1. White-pigmented curing compound (Not suitable for use below 5°C and as per manufacturer requirements) 2. Burlap and water (not suitable for use below 0°C) 3. Vapour barrier and thermal blankets (the most effective option) Leaving the surface exposed, as shown in the Town of Oakville, can lead to accelerated deterioration, especially when de-icing salts are introduced.

⬇️ Why I combine moisture scans and core sampling on every flat roof survey. Only 15% of this roof area was found to be saturated. Core samples in the wrong areas would have given me the impression that the roof could have been overlaid or needed a full replacement. This data also allows clients to make informed decisions based on a prioritised roofing plan - this roof now becomes a priority over others. Can you spot the problem here? See that dark brown line? The original contractor made a crucial mistake by not protecting the open graded coarse material with filter fabric during the grading process. The result? Sediment and silt washed in, hindering proper infiltration. EverGreen Site Solutions stepped in to rectify the issue, rebuilding a 3-foot section and unclogging voids between the bricks by hand.
