“America’s scientific success is no accident. … Yet what got America to this point will not get the country to where it needs to go.” Check out the editorial from Sudip Parikh, Marcia McNutt, and Dario Gil on the Vision for American Science & Technology in this week’s Science Magazine. This commentary should be a must read in science classes across the country, as well as the general public. With the incoming administration's selection of people who are anti-science (or junk science supporters) to lead these critical health and science departments, it's up to us to voice our concerns to our elected leaders. The best way to combat mis/disinformation is with facts.
Science and technology cannot always be understood and explained, but they can be shown and at times proven. Knowledge and understanding can be shown over time and diligence.
Claiming to be the best because no one else can economically compete is not the same as being the best it can be.

2moSudip Parikh Marcia McNutt Dario Gil What specific problems are identified for the lack of progress, the plateauing or the failure of the American Scientifc Enterprise? What solution is being offered in this summation? I suggest that the biggest failure, especially in the Academic sector, has been an induced complacency. The leadership is not selected on the basis of content or material expertise. It’s selected on the basis of political influence and process expertise. This trend is good for Universities raking in resources, but extremely bad of output or ROI.
