Exotec CEO Romain Moulin argues that humanoid robots are inefficient and offer no real value to automated warehouses. Unlike specialized machines optimized for specific tasks, humanoid robots are overly complex and costly for warehouse operations. Moulin compares humanoid robots to designing planes with flapping wings—an unnecessary innovation. He attributes the current buzz around humanoid robots to hype, citing Tesla's Optimus project, but suggests that more practical, non-humanoid systems are better suited for the warehouse industry. He also believes the attention humanoid robots bring to the industry is superficial. #warehouseautomation

Adagy Robotics (YC W24) is a 24/7 remote intervention service for robots. When your robot fails, it can call out to Adagy over their API. Adagy’s trained operators will take over and drive your robot back to a stable state, and then resume autonomous operation. Robot reliability is the major blocker to mass deployment today. For example, a robot might get stuck in tall grass because it interprets the grass in the same way it might interpret a chain link fence – catastrophically impenetrable! This problem is painful for end users – a farmer who has just spent $100k on an autonomous tractor doesn’t want to stop work to tell the robot “that’s not a fence” every 4 hours. This problem is painful for robotics companies – they want to be able to sell robots that work, but it can take many years of R&D to get to 99.999% reliability. With Adagy, robots work as customers expect them to, and robotics companies get to learn from their mistakes. Co-founders Rosalind Shinkle and Kathleen Brandes met while working at Boston Dynamics on the Spot robot. At BD, Ros engineered the algorithms to control Spot’s arm and gripper. Kathleen went on to work at Tesla, developing an end-to-end machine learning approach for Tesla’s humanoid’s arms and hands. Congrats on the launch, Ros and Kathleen!

🤖 𝗠𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗰𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗴𝗲𝘀: 𝗺𝗼𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗲 𝗿𝗼𝗯𝗼𝘁𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 Solving the intricacies of stacking (and to a lesser extent, unstacking) applications with mobile robots is always a challenging endeavor. The primary hurdles often stem from the condition of the pallets or racks being transported. These applications can be categorized into two distinct classes: 1️⃣ Applications involving pallets or racks 𝗲𝘅𝗰𝗹𝘂𝘀𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗹𝘆 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗯𝘆 𝗔𝗚𝗩𝘀 𝗼𝗿 𝗔𝗠𝗥𝘀 typically offer fewer complexities, as mobile robots are adept at handling loads without causing damage. 2️⃣ Applications where pallets or racks are 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗯𝗼𝘁𝗵 𝗺𝗮𝗻𝘂𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗯𝘆 𝗺𝗼𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗲 𝗿𝗼𝗯𝗼𝘁𝘀 present unique challenges. In such scenarios, there's a risk of load damage during manual handling. I recall a project where a mobile robot would only pick up pallets after they had passed through a verification station, akin to the discerning eye of an automated warehouse. Nevertheless, it remains common for a significant percentage of loads to be discarded due to potential damage. 📢 𝗤𝘂𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: What are your thoughts on the role of mobile robots in optimizing stacking operation❓ Have you encountered similar challenges in your industry, and how have you tackled them ⁉ Share your insights and experiences in the comments below! 👇 ✨ In the accompanying video, you can witness Multiway Robotics' mobile robots in action, expertly performing various stacking operations. These robots are built upon manual forklifts by Linde Material Handling. A big shout-out to Laura Woo for this enlightening video! #Robotics #Automation #Innovation "These insights are from Javier Miguélez, Mobile Robotics Consultant and Co- Founder of The Mobile Robot Directory.
