We’re excited to unveil the new multimedia facade for Perfumeria Júlia in the heart of Andorra. For their flagship building, which houses both Perfumerías Julia's most significant store and their corporate headquarters, we designed a multimedia facade that embodies the brand's character and personality while establishing a unique visual identity. Through a process of deconstructing and abstracting Julia's corporate imagery, which is inspired by a bamboo forest, we developed a concept that transformed the entire facade into a striking, large-scale intervention. The design features a lightweight, segmented metallic structure composed of asymmetrical metal fins suspended from the pre-existing structure. Each fin integrates LED screens on the downward-facing sides and LED lighting on the upward-facing sides. This dual visual system enhances visibility, producing a dynamic interplay of light and shadow that evolves depending on the viewer’s perspective, creating an ever-changing visual narrative. Geometric Reflections: Horten Tiles and Car Curves in Kempten The reflection of the iconic Horten Tiles from the Galeria Karstadt Kaufhof in Kempten dances across the sleek windshield and body of a car, creating an intricate interplay of geometric patterns. The rigid, repeating tiles form a sharp contrast to the smooth, flowing lines of the vehicle, merging two distinct design elements into a single, captivating visual. The Horten tile, a key element of modernist architecture, was originally designed by Helmut Rhode in the 1960s, featuring a stylized “H” shape. The tiles, measuring 50 x 50 cm, were first made from ceramic, later from aluminum. Their bold, modular aesthetic still graces facades across Germany. However, with the financial difficulties of the Galeria Karstadt Kaufhof group and the closure of several stores, the future of these iconic structures is uncertain.
