What’s the right answer from a business and production standpoint? Don’t know, don’t care. It’s absolutely not important. What are your post-game rituals?! 🎮 No, I don't mean it in sports terms... Post-game rituals for me are things that I do pretty consistently for every game I finish, whether I enjoyed it or not. So, what I do after playing is: - Note down the game in my special Google Sheet with my score out of 10 (I have one Sheet per year where I can see what games I played in a particular year and what would be my Game Of The Year) - Write a review on platforms if possible (crying in Nintendo Switch) - Check out the speedruns of the game! 🏃 I think the first ones are pretty standard, but I haven't come across many people doing the third step! For me, checking out the speedruns is about recognizing what the community has done on the game in terms both of glitches and bizarre strategies. It is fun to look at all these crazy shenanigans that speedrunners come up with and also it's great seeing the real appreciation for the title through their eyes. ❤️ Seeing how speedrunners interact with the game is totally different from seeing content creators, typical players or developers playing the title. It teaches me a lot about: - Game design - User experience - Community building What I really want to say is... Appreciate your speedrunners!🗣️ They have been playing your game for hours and hours on end and they interacted with your work in a very intimate and unconventional way. The gaming landscape in 2024 has seen an odd fall off in AAA success, with only August’s Black Myth: Wukong reaching the kind of blockbuster levels of sales that the peak of the gaming market expects. Instead, many of this year’s gaming headlines have been taken by smaller studios that have beaten the odds. Games like Helldivers 2, Palworld, Hades II, and Manor Lords. But one title stands out among even these small developer games: Balatro. Balatro, with a solo developer, and a marketing budget of almost zero, was able to sell over a million copies to become one of the best reviewed games on Steam, outselling many AAA games developed by large studios.
