Thank You for Your Service There are few things I can imagine are more daunting than having to navigate an airport in full dress uniform ... dealing with complete strangers continuously walking up to our soldiers and saying 'Thank you for your service'. The gestures are all well-meaning of course and I'm sure the soldiers are grateful for the gratitude, and yet I can imagine how it can become a bit much for the service member with each 'You're welcome' reply as they attempt to order a cup of coffee or read a book while waiting for a flight. And what about the veteran who no longer wears a uniform. Where is the public gratitude for him or her? I think there is another way to thank our Veterans. Let's do so by embodying the American values for which they chose to serve and defend. We can do that by recognizing that America is the greatest force for good in the world. That we invest in a strong military not because we are warmongers but because we understand that peace comes through strength. That while we are an imperfect nation, we strive each day to create a more perfect union for all. That it is okay to be a divided nation as long as we do not forget that we are united as Americans who all love our country. And by realizing there is a special group of people willing to put their lives on the line for all of that. The fact that they and we live as free men and women in a prosperous country is the direct result of their willingness to serve past and present. Let those truths be the unspoken but heartfelt 'Thank you for your service' to our Veterans. #ThankYouVeterans #MilitaryAppreciation #VeteransDay

Honoring Our Heroes on Veterans Day On Veterans Day, we pay tribute to the brave men and women who have selflessly served in our nation's armed forces. Let's take a moment to explore the history and significance of this special day. Veterans Day is a federal holiday observed on November 11th of each year to honor all of America's veterans who have served in the United States Armed Forces. Today, we celebrate and give thanks to all veterans for their service, sacrifices, courage, patriotism, and love of this country. Veterans Day is linked to the "Great War" or World War I, which ended on the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month of 1918. Originally, the holiday commemorated the armistice or cease-fire day that ended World War I between the Allies and Germany. President Wilson commemorated this day as Armistice Day on November 11, 1919. Armistice Day officially was ended by President Dwight Eisenhower in 1954, and it became Veterans Day to commemorate American veterans of all wars. As we commemorate this day, we express our deepest gratitude to veterans for their service, valor, and resilience. We recognize the transferable skills and qualities they bring to the workforce. California Government Code section 12940 makes it unlawful for an employer to discriminate against or harass an employee because of their military or veteran status. In the unfortunate circumstance where veterans are subjected to discrimination or harassment in the workplace, our firm takes tremendous pride in advocating on their behalves. If you worked in California and believe you were subjected to discrimination or harassment at work because of your military or veteran status, contact us for a free case review at (424) 334-3194. We would love to hear from you! #VeteransDay #HonorOurHeroes #Veterans #Military #justice #employment #employeerights #work

For this Veterans Day, we asked fellow members of the WorkSource Georgia team to answer the question, "What does Veteran's Day mean to me?". In the coming days we will be highlighting some of their stories and insights from those that served and those that know someone that served. "To me, Veterans Day stands as the second most significant federal holiday, right after Memorial Day. While Memorial Day solemnly honors the service members who gave their lives for our country, Veterans Day is dedicated to celebrating those who have served and continue to enrich our lives. Although these brave individuals have made it home, many have not emerged from their experiences entirely unscathed. Veterans share common experiences unique to military life; however, each individual’s journey is distinct. Some carry visible reminders of their service, while others bear the weight of mental scars, and many endure a combination of both. On Veterans Day, communities across the United States come together to express their gratitude in various ways, such as hosting parades and other local events. Many businesses join in by displaying messages of thanks or offering discounts to veterans. Some communities even organize initiatives aimed at providing essential resources and services for veterans in need. Additionally, Veterans Day serves as an important reminder of the ongoing challenges faced by many veterans who have not yet received the support they deserve and need. For me, Veterans Day holds profound meaning, as it not only fosters appreciation but also promotes the well-being of those who have bravely served our nation." - Bryndan Chaney, OWD JVSG team member #worksourcegeorgia #worksourcega #worksourcevets #veteransday2024 #veteransday #veterans #georgiaveterans #georgiavets #jvsg

Remembrance Day will soon be here. There are a lot of people focused on preparations for paying tribute to our veterans. Wearing a poppy symbolizes remembering and honoring them. Sharing their stories keeps them in our hearts and thoughts before and beyond the day. There are many stories about their bravery and the sacrifices made by all who fought for the freedoms most people take for granted today. There are also many untold stories. Stories that veterans don't think we could handle or understand. Stories of fear, loneliness, isolation. Stories that we may never hear. This year, let's remember to respect our veterans too. Listen to their stories from a place of gratitude. Think about the lifestyle you have because of the life they lived. Try putting yourself in their shoes. I think of our military today and how few people want to be part of it. I think about what is happening around the world right now. I think about how the world is changing. I think that if we really want to pay tribute to our veterans, we should focus on peace. Maybe for one day everyone could be more accepting of others and their differences. Maybe for one day we could look for resolutions through communication instead of violence. Maybe for one day you could be the example of respect, understanding, and compassion towards others. And maybe that one day will lead to more of those days .......... November 11 is Remembrance Day. Every day is a good day to remember and a great day to be someone that our veterans would be proud of. Thank you to all our veterans, and all the men and women that serve in our military. #lifecoaching #lifeguide #attitude #gratitude #betheexample #accepting #understanding #remembranceday2024 #positivepathsleadership #Respect #honor #veterans #military

Today marks the 80th anniversary of the most significant military assault in history. As we reflect on the monumental bravery displayed during the Battle of Normandy, it's crucial to acknowledge the enduring struggles faced by Veterans, particularly those who grappled with what was then known as battle fatigue, now recognized as post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Eight decades ago, amidst the chaos of D-Day, countless Service Members experienced the horrors of war firsthand. For some, the trauma of combat lingered long after the guns fell silent. Many WWII Veterans carried the invisible scars of their service, haunted by memories of the battlefield. Just as the soldiers of EZ Company, the 2nd Ranger Battalion, and many others faced the uncertainty of enemy territory, today's Veterans confront their own battles against mental anguish and inner turmoil. The courage displayed on D-Day serves as a timeless reminder of the resilience ingrained in the hearts of those who have served. In the face of the ongoing military and Veteran mental health crisis, it's essential to honor the sacrifices of the past by supporting those who continue to struggle in the present. Like their predecessors, today's Veterans must know they are not alone in their fight. Through outreach and support, we can offer a beacon of hope amidst the darkness, reminding them their courage isn't just a trait of the past—it's a guiding light for their future. #veterans #mentalhealthmatters #PTSDAwareness Randy Clunan Sam J Peterson, MBA Altior Healthcare Paradigm Treatment Patriot Power Up

Thank you to all of the veterans who chose to put on a uniform and serve your country. You made a choice, and a sacrifice, because you felt that our great nation required it. Some fun statistics about veterans in the U.S.; 1. In 2022 there were 16,200,000 veterans in the U.S, 6.2% of population (down from 25M in 1990). 2. The poverty rate for veterans is about 7.5%, which is lower than the national average of ~12% (a good news story). 3. Alaska was the state with the highest % of veterans in 2022 at 10.1%, with NY and DC the lowest at 3.7% and 4%, respectively. 4. Texas has the highest number of veterans at 1.4M. 5. By 2045 the number of veterans is predicted to decrease to 12M (we'll be even more elite!). 6. The share of employed veterans who are government workers is 22.8%. 7. And finally, thank you to our WWII and Korean war vets, since 42% of males 75 years and older are veterans!

Veterans' Day: Navigating Honor in a Post-Modern Society The question of whether we should honor our veterans presents a multifaceted issue. On the one hand, the public recognition of veterans acknowledges their unusual and extraordinary sacrifices in service of a nation. It is about a community openly expressing gratitude for the bravery and selflessness service of those who have worn the uniform. On the other hand, an uncritical reverence perpetuates a simplistic view of military service, overlooking the intricate layers of its complexities, particularly those of armed forces and the democratic nations they serve. There is a real danger in blind celebration in so far that such narratives of heroism and sacrifice ultimately perpetuate militarism. Honoring veterans should foster a sense of unity and collective identity crucial in navigating the complexities of postmodern society. Yet honoring veterans also demands a critical examination of the societal structures that enable militarism and the heedless tribute of war. A veteran’s day should ultimately advance the recognition of those who have served and embody the shared values that bind us together. It should reflect our gratitude for the men and women who serve, but also serve as a rather subtle warning that war is a very real threat – and some have been called to fight in them. How can public recognition of veterans be improved to reflect a deeper understanding of their challenges during and after service? Spread the word and share this post! The Road Back: A bi-monthly LinkedIn series that explores the veteran's journey and sheds light on combat experience and life after war. Official VLOG and more coming soon!
