How dark mode killed good design https://lnkd.in/guNdcSJE I love this Youtube channel and I love how a person that is NOT a UX designer can explore and understand a topic that is actually better than most that discuss this issue on social media. There is nothing ground breaking here, but I felt it was very well told.

Basically a 13 minute long video which concludes that Apple sucks at design. That downward spiral started a long time ago and had nothing to do with dark mode.
Dark mode is just so cool on a phone, as it blends with bezels. And that makes the elite people using dark mode look cooler and smarter. It is like wearing high heels vs slippers. I only switch to light mode when I’m alone and nobody sees me.
She is making a very good point at the end - companies are so focused on pushing new features that they even do not bother to explain why we even need them (ref. to latest Apple release of tint mode). Is more about creating sth new than focusing on what is really needed.
Imagine if the print media and books also switch to the dark mode! Will the keyboard call it *Black Space*?
Interesting hadn’t thought of this

3dFrom my experience, when a screen is designed with dark and light modes in mind from the outset, some design options like certain colors, color combinations, and contrast ratios are often excluded to ensure the dark/light mode switch functions properly. These constraints can sometimes lead to a less optimal design.
