𝗝𝗮𝗻𝘂𝗮𝗿𝘆 𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗰𝗵-𝘂𝗽𝘀 𝗦𝗬𝗗𝗡𝗘𝗬 – January in Australia is often quiet before Australia Day—not just in recruitment but also in terms of your workload, which might be lighter, especially with many of your Partners being off. I am therefore looking to fill my diary with face to face catch-ups from 𝟲𝘁𝗵 𝗝𝗮𝗻𝘂𝗮𝗿𝘆 onwards. If you’d like to discuss the legal market (domestic or international), career progression advice, salary information, or anything else, feel free to reach out: 𝗯𝗲𝗻.𝘀𝗺𝗶𝘁𝗵@𝗺𝗮𝗿𝘀𝗱𝗲𝗻𝗴𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗽.𝗰𝗼𝗺. It's worth noting that January is BAU and remains busy in our international markets, making it a great time to start—or focus on—an international search.

***State of the Advice Nation only ten days to go*** 💡 We close fieldwork for SOTAN on Friday 22nd November meaning if you work in the advice profession and want to get your voice heard, time is running out to join the 300 of your peers who have taken part so far. ⌚ The study will take between 10 and 30 minutes of your time depending on your role and there's loads on offer in return. 👶 This year we're looking to add as many people who are newer to the profession into the fieldwork to get their views on the sector based on their experience so far. Do you know anyone who is in their first 5 years in advice, whether that be paraplanning, planning, admin or any other role? We're extremely keen to capture their thoughts and perspectives on the role so far. There's fewer questions for the newbies and they get their own dedicated section too. The study will take them no more than 10 to 15 minutes to fire through. 🧠 How can you help? Perhaps there's someone you know who is newer to the profession and would be interested in getting insight from their peers? All shares and tags of this post hugely appreciated. ⁉ If you're not sure whether it'll be worth your while, don't take my word for it, take the word of the wonderfully talented (not to mention recent award winner from last week, congrats!) Jo Wall FPFS.

Results of this afternoon's conversation: Mentoring programs, relevant training and development, workplace adjustments, use of learning communities, appreciation and motivation are ways to improve the skills of more senior/older civil servants and align their competencies with those of younger ones. This is a common challenge in the public sector globally, and especially in Indonesia.

Why the Industry-Education Gap Matters: The Looming Extinction of Skilled Trades Imagine a world without electricians, welders, or machinists—essential trades that keep our industries running, but are quietly vanishing. This loss is not just a possibility—it’s a reality unfolding before our eyes, just like the near-extinction of the Reo Māori language in New Zealand. Once the heartbeat of a culture, Reo Māori was marginalized for generations, until only a handful of fluent speakers remained. Today, we face a similar crisis, not with words, but with skills. Skilled trades are on the brink of extinction, and unless we act now, we risk losing these essential talents for good. KOS Collaborates is our solution—a modern framework designed to bridge the gap between industry and education, connecting students to real-world feedback and mentorship from industry leaders. Just as New Zealand fought to revive Reo Māori, we have a responsibility to preserve and pass down the skills and trades that sustain our industries. This is not just about closing the labor gap—it’s about saving the future of our workforce. The time to act is now. If your business or school wants to be part of the movement to revive these essential trades and build a skilled workforce for the future, DM me today to learn how KOS Collaborates can help. #KOSCollaborates #IndustryEducationGap #WorkforceDevelopment #SkilledTradesMatter #ReoMāoriRevival #FutureReady

It was few days to my convocation! The convocation list for my department was pasted so I went to check it for my name. I was dismayed when I discovered my name wasn't there after I had checked all the lists over and over again. And I didn't have issues with any of my results so I couldn't tell where the problem was coming from. I hastily ran to my exam officer who then told me that my results had not been approved by the Senate due to some erroneous omissions. But he promised to do something about it though it meant I won't be convocating and my NYSC mobilisation will be delayed as well. I was faced with the choices of either returning home or staying back in Calabar, pending when my results will be approved by the Senate. This was a difficult decision for me to make because there wasn't much for me at home. But stay back was a challenge as I would no longer be receiving the monthly allowance from my Parents. Choosing this also meant forgoing the comfort which I would get if I was to return home. My hostel accomodations was going to expire too so getting a place to stay will also be difficult. I took a walk one evening to ponder over these things and after weighing my options again, I decided to stay back in Calabar rather than return home. I wasn't easy at first but it turned out to be the best decision I made. This is because getting out of my comfort zone allowed me to stretch myself and my mind as well as improve my personal development. During that waiting period, I started my own business, did a HSE course and acquired other skills that added value to my life. I can't the first time I was faced with a difficult decision but it's one of which I'm proud of the decision I made in the end. P.S: Can you remember the first time you were faced with a difficult decision to make? If yes, please share your story with me in the comment session below. #tss 1.0

I celebrated my 19th birthday by having a long weekend over in Newcastle! I got to witness this incredible structure that contained flexible points which allowed it to be flexible enough to bend and allow bigger boats to pass through. This got me thinking about work.. Applying for one of our jobs could be the bridge in your career.. In a sense working within my team, you have to be flexible, adapt to your surroundings just like this bridge. Within any job, you are required to adapt and encouraged to bring new ideas to the table. I started thinking about our vacancies here at EKFB that we have available, site engineers, section engineers, sub agents. I started to think how much that specific job (and just like you as a candidate), how YOU can make a difference to a business, the experience and knowledge you can bring to the table. It’s incredible how much difference you as a candidate can make to a business in the normal working week. Have you had a look at our new vacancies this week? If so, let’s have a chat, let’s discuss what you would like to succeed in your career! Let’s talk about what you can bring to the table! Take a look at our careers page below! #letshaveachat #newcastle #aspirations #careerpath

Dear Hiring Managers. Today, my edition of this letter is to all interviewers, recruiters, and HR managers. After the interview and the eventual picking of the right candidate, THERE IS A PRINCIPLE OF FEEDBACK. This principle not only demonstrates professionalism and respect for candidates but also offers closure to candidates who have invested time and effort in preparing for the interview. I am still suffering for one, because I was waiting for the yes or no to finalize my relocation until the landowner did his worst. Thank God, I was favored by the weather for days. Regardless of the outcome, candidates deserve constructive feedback that helps them understand their strengths and areas for improvement. I learned from the Port Harcourt CIPM 24th conference that no matter how small the sentence may be, give official feedback. For me, I see interviews as a valuable learning opportunity, and they help me refine my skills and enhance my professional development. In sum, if we can't give constructive feedback based on reasons for workloads, at least two-sentence feedback gives our hiring process a top-notch mark; it shows our values of transparency, accountability, and personal growth, and I think it does drive excellence and promote the company's brand. For the candidate, it is a sign of courtesy, but more than that, it facilitates more informed and strategic decision-making that can shape their professional development journey. Happy Holidays, everyone! For those in Kano, keep enjoying till next week. Peace. Your Junior Professional Colleague Sanya Frederick Ola. ACIPM, HRPL,AITD.
