Ali Abbasi’s The Apprentice hits cinema screens on October 11th. It tells the story of a young Donald Trump as he is mentored by the notorious New York attorney Roy Cohn. Set in the 1970’s and 80s the film has a strong visual style and a sound track very much of that time. The film is an Irish, Danish and Canadian co-production. All picture and sound post took place at Screen Scene & Ardmore Sound with Donal O’Kane and Sinead Cronin working on the grade and online and Colm Mullally on the sound mix.

A fascinating article in Variety and an excellent interview quote from Matthew Helderman about indie film and theatrical. I commented in his post the following: "Here in the UK, many zero, no, and ultra-low-budget producers and filmmakers are still very much married to the idea of a theatrical run of some kind. There are more sensible, almost business-like voices that are putting budgets together to make sure that they sell their films either by themselves or have the budget to sell their films effectively to a platform (yes...it costs money to sell something...who knew!!!). It is a conversation that needs to be had now, and as the months go by and into 2025, it will become increasingly urgent. The sands are shifting. We all need to adapt.
