🚂 Construction of Tsipi Tunnel 🚂
The construction of the Tsipi Tunnel is a significant event for Georgia and the entire Transcaucasus region. As part of the Transcaucasus Railway, which connects the Caspian and Black Seas, Georgia plays a crucial role as a transit route.
🛠️ Construction began in 1886 under the supervision of engineer Ferdinand Ridzevsky and was completed in 1890.
🔹 The tunnel was inaugurated on September 28, 1890, with the first train journey taking 12 minutes.
🌍 Over 2,000 workers and specialists from various countries, including Russia, Austria, Switzerland, and Germany, were involved in the project.
📈 The tunnel holds significant economic and transit importance, facilitating trade and industry development in the Transcaucasus region.
🏛️ A commemorative medal for the tunnel is preserved at the Kharagauli Museum of Local Lore, highlighting its historical significance
⚡ In 1932, the Tsipi Tunnel became the first electrified railway section in the former Soviet Union, marking a milestone with the passage of the first electric train.
🗿 To commemorate the tunnel's completion, an obelisk and a bronze medal were created, highlighting its historical significance.
