🙍🏻♀️🙎🏽♀️👩🏾⚕️👩🏼💻 How true is this? 🎯 Very. What is more concerning? The more egregious the misconduct, the more likely the woman is to suffer a higher level of punitive consequences. “Go along to get along” and “silence is golden” workplace cultures are more likely to harm women, and other marginalized workers in their lives and careers. There are degrees of harm that correlate to the severity of misconduct victims are subjected to. Abuse of power, up to and including actual criminal midconduct can include: Inappropriate sexual behavior Stalking Harassment Physical abuse Psychological abuse Financial abuse and denied pay Threats of harm Inappropriate quid pro quo behavior Expectations of dishonesty A culture of silent tolerance Favoritism All of these are common in the workplace, and acquiescence may be the only means to maintain current employment or future employability. The victim should not bear this burden. Part of the problem is that women are more often subordinate within organizations, therefore are more frequently affected by imbalances in power. Until such time as these are the de facto tenants: Women are people Women are worthy Women deserve human dignity Women have inherent value Women are meritorious Women belong Women benefit the workforce Harm to society as a whole will continue. Until anyone is capable of speaking up against wrongdoing without negative repercussions, none of us are free from potential harm. #equality #womenintheworkforce #victimization #harm #workplaceculture #silence #careerdestruction #powerimbalance
Gretchen Carlson speaks about women who are pushed out of their jobs for speaking up and the ensuing consequences.

It is our responsibility to reimagine the political system designed around men and gendered ideas of leadership, argues WFD's Cecillia Makonyola. If we cannot imagine it, we will never have a system that values women’s labour in all its forms. Beginning on International Women’s Day, let's reimagine politics as it should be; the work of women 🕊️ #IWD2024 #womensleadership #womeninpolitics

Each year, on March 08, the world marks International Women’s Day (IWD) to celebrate women’s social, economic, cultural and political achievements while continuing the fight against gender-based discrimination and violence. Though there have been good progress in advancing women forward, discrimination and violence towards women are still rampant. Invest In Women - Accelerating Progress is an excellent theme for this year’s IWD. More work (i.e. investment of time, money and effort) needs to be done to enable women to thrive and prosper while ensuring for their safety and security. #InvestInWomen

Why should we wait for crises to propel women towards economic independence? This question has lingered in my mind as I’ve observed the patriarchal framework underpinning our society. Women are often conditioned to rely on themselves only in dire circumstances, a narrative in urgent need of revision. Investing in women necessitates proactive measures to uplift them before they confront adversity. Undoubtedly, the path to empowerment is rife with obstacles, as I’ve experienced firsthand. When women assert their rights or invest in themselves, they frequently encounter resistance and judgment. Nevertheless, every woman who defies these stereotypes paves the way for others, dismantling barriers and reshaping norms. https://lnkd.in/gANsmrQn #internationalwomensday2024 #inspireinclusion #IDW2024 #Empower #InvestinWomen
