#SustainableSchoolsDay celebrations highlight the importance of accelerating the development of sustainability competencies through learning, as emphasized in the report by The World's Largest Lesson. Download it and share it! "What are the skills young people need to take action on sustainability issues? How can we expedite their development in young people? Are educational programmes around the world helping to build these skills? These are some of the questions that this report explores. Building upon existing literature we propose a taxonomy comprising 17 individual competencies. Its aim is to empower young people, by ensuring they are both willing and able to take action on sustainability challenges." What role should higher education play in shaping a sustainable future? At The Economist’s Eighth Sustainability Summit, Rania Assariotaki, Director, Office of Sustainability-Public Affairs, joined esteemed experts like Jeffrey Sachs, Domagoj Juricic, John Andrews and Prof. Dr. Phoebe Koundouri on the panel, "The Fight for Sustainability: Where Are We Heading?" Ms. Assariotaki stressed that higher education institutions (HEIs) are pivotal drivers of change. With ACG’s 150-year legacy and long history of serving the community, she reaffirmed our commitment to advancing the SDGs, especially SDG4: Quality Education, preparing students not just with academic knowledge, but with the values and leadership skills needed to create a sustainable future. 🎓 “HEIs must stay consistent in advancing the sustainability agenda, regardless of political shifts. Sustainability is everybody’s business, and the future of all living beings depends on our collective leadership.” While breakthroughs in fields such as renewable energy and the younger generations' demand for change offer hope, she also called for urgent action to address social inequality, biodiversity loss, and global accountability. Her message: We all have a role to play and HEIs can ensure that sustainability is not just a goal, but a way of life. 🌍🤝 Watch her full speech below 👇 #EconSustainability #SustainableACG #HigherEd #Sustainability

🌍 Celebrating Sustainability at Plymouth Business School! Plymouth Business School is delighted to announce the successful completion of the Sustainability Curriculum Mapping Initiative in partnership with Students Organising for Sustainability (SOS-UK). This transformative project marks a significant milestone in embedding sustainability into the School's curriculum. Key Highlights: 🔍 Comprehensive Mapping: A dedicated team of student auditors mapped both undergraduate and postgraduate modules. This extensive mapping assessed the integration of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), Responsible Management Education (RME) criteria, and Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) methods. 📊 Incorporation of SDGs: The mapping revealed significant integration of SDGs, with topics related to SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth) appearing in 61.6% of modules. 🌟 Responsible Management Education: The results indicated that students were supported in developing ethical leadership in 62.9% of all mapped modules. This initiative provides a crucial baseline understanding of how the programmes support students in recognising the importance of sustainability. It also equips students with the skills and competencies needed to contribute to a more sustainable world. Plymouth Business School's commitment to sustainability is stronger than ever. Education plays a crucial role in achieving sustainability, especially under Sustainable Development Goal 4 (SDG4). Education is the foundation for progress in all areas of sustainability. By promoting quality education for all, SDG4 ensures that people have the knowledge and skills needed to address environmental challenges, promote social equity, and drive economic growth sustainably. Education empowers individuals to make informed decisions, fosters critical thinking, and encourages innovation, all of which are essential for creating a sustainable future for our planet and its inhabitants. #sdg4 #sustainabledevelopmentgoals
