Because by and large*, we tend to live around sea level, barometric pressure is something we often don't need to think about, till we go diving, in aircraft or up mountains. In my case today, it's the latter. Driving over the Alps (Southern, not Swiss unfortunately) I note significant drop in pressure. Sitting now at Arthurs Pass, I see I'm a bit lower (778m) but the pressure is down to 920 hPa. It's been of embarrassingly recent years that I learned the term 'pass', as in Arthurs Pass, meant a passage through mountains. On probably t he 10th listen of the LOTR audio books, I realised the Fellowship were forced through Morea as the couldn't get through the Redhorn Pass. *By and large origin. Check out this video showcasing a lice simulation from around 𝟓𝟎 𝐥𝐨𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 in Vestfjorden, Lofoten. 🦠🌬️ From August 15 to September 5, the video visualizes how lice spread with ocean currents in just a few weeks. 🎥 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐮𝐥𝐭𝐬? The pattern reveals that lice from all locations converge into four distinct clusters. Even more interesting is what happens inside the fjords - like Tysfjorden. Here, the lice seem to “surf” around almost exclusively within the fjord. This means if one site gets lice, the other sites in that fjord are almost guaranteed to be affected too.
