🌱 We're Hiring 🌱 We're excited to announce the launch of the Georgia Native Seed Network, a groundbreaking initiative aimed at addressing the critical shortage of locally adapted, genetically appropriate native seeds and plant materials in Georgia and the Southeast Region. Why This Matters: The shortage of native seeds hampers wildfire recovery and habitat restoration efforts across federal, state, local, and private lands. This disconnect between supply and demand discourages producers from investing in these essential materials, despite significant public and private need. Our Collaborative Effort: In partnership with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS), the State Botanical Garden of Georgia (SBG), the Southeastern Grasslands Institute (SGI), and the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), we are developing a network that links field botanists, horticulturists, growers, farmers, landowners, and agencies to produce and distribute local ecotype seeds and plant materials. Positions: Georgia Seed Network Field Technician, State Botanical Garden Based at Dry Branch GA 2- https://lnkd.in/eHhU-4X7 GA Seed Network Field Technician Based in Dry Branch, GA- https://lnkd.in/ebNxtxzd Georgia Seed Network Field Technician, State Botanical Garden Based at Jekyll Island, GA- https://lnkd.in/eN8SAif4 Join us in making a difference! Can’t wait to see everyone at the #VirginiaSolarSummit (#VSS)! Jess & I will have a booth. Stop by when you get a chance or let’s set up a specific time to have a conversation about #dualuse. In addition to #sheep, we could integrate a variety of compatible #livestock, #habitat and #crops with #solar projects. We currently have 800 ewes (300+ on sites because that’s what the vegetation warrants with several hundred more plus #lambs that could be used to stock new projects due to a successful #lambing season)! Now is the time to add #grazing to your #renewableenergy portfolio. To date, we have managed animals on 8 projects and have consulted for many more. The business model supports creation of #jobs which helps the #local #economy. Our experience is critical when working with decision-makers because we can show how the operation has grown. For this new sector to be successful, more #solarfarms need to be made available to producers. https://lnkd.in/gcUUYPAq #solargrazing #agrivoltaics #agrisolar #solarsheep #Virginia #VirginiaSolar #VASolar #VASolarSummit #colocation

Great example of how the energy transition can coexist with livestock and how animals can be part of the solution (despite the efforts of those that want to get rid of all livestock). The use of solar grazing sheep makes economic, environmental and social sense. It helps sustain and revive rural communities and looks much better than a modern mower! Who doesn’t love sheep? #sustainability #livestock

BUILDING AN ANIMAL FARM...LEARN THIS!!!!! Overseeing construction workers while an animal farm is being built requires effective communication, planning, and a solid grasp of the building process. To make sure the project goes well, consider the following advice: 1. Transparent Communication; Project Scope: Clearly state the goals, specifications, and expected results of the project. Regular Meetings: Schedule frequent meetings with the construction crew to go over updates, resolve issues, and make any required corrections. Documentation:Maintain thorough records of all discussions, agreements, and scope adjustments for the project. 2. Hiring and Management: Skilled Workers: Employ knowledgeable and seasoned personnel with a focus on agricultural construction. Make sure they are aware of the unique requirements of an animal farm. Supervision: Designate a project manager or foreman to supervise day-to-day activities and guarantee that the work complies with standards and plans. Norms for Safety: Stress the value of safety and provide the required tools and training. 3. Budget and Resources; Budget Planning: Create a thorough budget that accounts for labor, supplies, machinery, and backup plans. Keep a watchful eye on your spending to prevent overspending. Resource Management: Make sure that all required tools and supplies are on hand as needed. Plan ahead and place your supply orders in advance to avoid delays. 4. Scheduling and Timeline; Realistic Timeline: Establish a reasonable deadline for finishing the project while accounting for possible delays brought on by inclement weather, problems with supplies, or other unanticipated events. Achievements: Divide the project into manageable stages with clear due dates. This supports motivation and progress monitoring. Adaptability: Be ready to modify plans as necessary while maintaining attention on the main objective. 5. Quality Control; Standards and Specifications: Verify that every task complies with the necessary guidelines. This is especially crucial for buildings that have to be safe and suited for housing animals, like barns and pens. Inspections: Perform routine inspections to evaluate the caliber of the job and swiftly resolve any concerns. 6. Coordination with Other Professionals; Architects and Engineers: Make sure the construction complies with design and structural specifications by working closely with architects and engineers. Environmental Impact: Take into account how the construction may affect things like waste management, habitat protection, and water run off It takes a combination of communication, organization, and leadership abilities to effectively manage construction workers. You may increase the likelihood that your animal farm will be completed successfully by keeping the project on schedule and cultivating positive relationships with your crew. #veterinarians #farmconstruction #projectmanagers #animalinvestors

New Wastewater Rehabilitation Project to Include State-of-the-Art NPE Bypass System In an effort to facilitate the cleaning and rehabilitation of a section wastewater submain, a cutting-edge bypass system by NPE will be installed to divert incoming wastewater away from the affected area. The bypass will remain in place until the rehabilitation is completed and the submain is ready to carry wastewater flows again. The full bypass system will boast the capacity to handle dry weather flows with a minimum excess safety margin of 50%. A pair of sound-attenuated diesel wastewater pumps, complete with suction pipe and level controls, will be installed into the same manhole. These pumps will be connected to a standard manifold, and the discharge pipe will run over to the existing Wastewater Pumping Station located approximately 280 meters away. The installation of the pumps will be carried out in a tight area, requiring precise and efficient engineering to accommodate the necessary components within the confined space. Under normal operating conditions, the primary diesel pump will automatically start and stop based on predetermined levels inside the maintenance hole. In the event of an issue with the primary unit, the backup diesel pump will seamlessly take over, operating independently with its own level controls. To accommodate the bypass system, a suction polyline will be trenched into Botany Road and connected to two pumps at the construction site. Additionally, lay flat hose will be used to convey the wastewater to the discharge maintenance hole, with one discharge poly dropper employed to facilitate the discharge. Moreover, the system will be configured to send an alarm text message to a predetermined list of mobile numbers, including NPE staff, in the case of specific triggers. These include instances where the water level in the upstream and suction maintenance hole rises to a level necessitating the activation of the diesel pump and situations where the water level in the maintenance hole surpasses the designated high level. This innovative bypass system represents a significant advancement in sewer rehabilitation technology and is a testament to our commitment to efficient and effective infrastructure management. Join us in leading the way for efficient wastewater management www.nationalpump.com.au #SewerRehabilitation #WastewaterManagement #BypassSystem

Did we get it right? Have your say on our draft Park Lands and Open Space Asset Management Plan which outlines the operation, maintenance and renewal of our assets over the next 10 years, and the vital role these assets play in providing essential services to our community now and into the future. Council's Park Lands and Open Space portfolio is currently valued at approximately $46.3 million and includes green assets (trees, turf, biodiversity and landscaped areas) and infrastructure assets (irrigation systems, playgrounds, sports fields, and water features). These assets provide essential services which enable the health and wellbeing of our community through the use and accessibility of our natural environment. Between November 2021 and June 2022, we asked you to give us feedback on our Asset Management Plans. The insights from the survey helped us identify where current levels of service are not meeting our community’s expectation and how we can better manage these assets. Now we want to hear from you, share your feedback by 5pm Friday 10 May 2024: https://brnw.ch/21wIpRa

SCOTUS overturns the Chevron doctrine, and many of my peers in the conservation world weep. However, in my experience, we often bemoan the courts reliance on Chevron in deferring to agency “experts” with whom we disagree. I want your thoughts on these three examples where I think losing Chevron is actually a benefit to conservation litigation: 1) the Forest Service is planing a timber sale in old growth forest. Conservation groups sue to stop it. Under Chevron, a judge allows the sale to proceed, siding with the agency argument that it is needed to reduce fire danger. Without Chevron, the plaintiffs might prevail on the argument that important habitat is lost. 2) the Bureau of Land Management renews a livestock grazing lease in critical riparian habitat. The conservation groups sue to prevent it. Under Chevron, a judge sides with the BLM on the basis that agency monitoring (which we know is weak) shows grazing is compatible with endangered bird habitat. Without Chevron, the plaintiffs may prevail by showing the judge a litany of peer reviewed studies concluding grazing is not compatible with riparian habitat integrity. 3) the Bureau of Reclamation seeks to build a small dam to stop the upstream movement of non native fish into a river targeted to native species recovery. Plaintiffs challenge the decision arguing that the cumulative effects of the project outweigh the potential benefits to fish recovery. Under Chevron, a judge sides with the BOR and partner wildlife managers as the agency experts assert that the dam is the only viable tool to recover native species. Without Chevron, plaintiffs may prevail by arguing that cumulative damages caused by the construction project outweigh any benefits, and that without addressing other watershed level nonnative fish sources the project is doomed to fail. These are all real world examples that I’ve faced in my work in Arizona. In my view, we are not necessarily hindered by Chevrons overturning. We may now have opportunities which we didn’t just a week ago. What do you think? Am I misinterpreting anything here?
