It’s been an unimaginable week in Los Angeles. It’s difficult to put into words. Our hearts are heavy. We’ve been glued to our phones and the Watch Duty app, thinking of our friends, neighbors, and strangers who have lost everything, including loved ones. We sit with the unknown of when these fires will be under control. It’s been stressful, scary, emotional, and full of anxiety and uncertainty. Those with children have been trying to keep calm while taking on their stress. People are continuing to work at the same time. Seeing the devastation, the loss, the uncertainty, and witnessing our city change forever. It’s a lot. Check in on each other, offer support, and show compassion and grace. Whether it’s a kind word, a helping hand, or a donation, every bit helps. To those on the front lines, thank you for your bravery and dedication. You are deeply appreciated. The compassion, care, and togetherness has been truly amazing to see. LA might be big and spread out, but these fires have connected us. Imagine the power of one small act of empathy, multiplied a thousand times. When I started The Give Back Community, It was a mission rooted in changing the lives of those we were serving. Such as our homeless friends or our kids suffering from disabilities and challenging backgrounds. But what I didn’t foresee was the depth of transformation that would ripple even more through the lives of those volunteering with us and through my own life too. Since 2020, → We’ve been on a journey, → Starting with feeding the homeless in West Palm Beach and → Growing into a full-scale support system for vulnerable communities, → Like the children at our school in Morro dos Prazeres/ Rio de Janeiro. With dedicated teachers, local partnerships, and a hunger to make a difference, We’ve now impacted thousands of lives across multiple countries. But our goal goes beyond food or education. → We’re here to inspire an entire generation, → Especially Gen Z, → To live lives of purpose, → Community, and service. The result? Kids who once saw only struggle are now building dreams. Communities once overlooked are now empowered. And people from all walks of life are finding the strength to be part of something bigger than themselves. Our work isn’t easy, But each smile, each life touched, reminds us why this matters. Here's your appeal letter Story Formula: The Community has a Problem. Your Organization has the Solution. The only way to Implement is with Donor Dollars. Wondering where you find your community problem? The first place to look is in the mission, vision, and values of the organization. Chances are good that your community problem is the opposite of these statements. For example: if your mission is to end childhood hunger the community problem is that KIDS ARE HUNGRY! That is compelling. It's attention grabbing. Now that you know your community problem, how are you going to use it in your appeal letter... Simple... Ready for it? It's the opening line of your appeal. Kids are hungry. Don't start your spring appeal with a paragraph talking about the joys of spring. People already know that. They are living it; they don't need you to remind them. Start with the problem. Grab their attention. That's it for this week. Turn your Nouns into Verbs! Great wisdom shared by Trennis Jones at TreeFolks annual Root Ball gala that we were proud to sponsor last Thursday night. Thanks ANDREW CORTES, P.E. for the invitation to get engaged with such a great organization! I’ve never met Trennis, but those words sure did resonate with me! It’s a whole lot easier to talk the talk vs walk the walk. There’s all sorts of clichés in our culture about putting your money where your mouth is and being more than just words. How do we turn good ideas or heartfelt intentions into actual actions that will make it difference? This goes well beyond sponsoring a charity or serving for a nonprofit to plant some trees and educate folks about what we care about. It’s got applicability in our relationships, work, family, fitness, and community. Another great one he used was “if your philanthropy only benefits people you know, we’re not doing it right!” We’ve been pretty busy the last five years at Tree Mann Solutions building a business and team. While we have done some volunteering here and there, we are sure excited about the future and the foundation we have built to be able to make a larger impact at scale for good moving forward. We are here to create and deliver innovative solutions for people and their environment - that syncs up real well with Tree Folks I’d say! We are excited to give there and find other great nonprofits across the state doing good things with trees, planting, education and canopy equity.
