Why? 1. The Peninsula Hotel decided to create a "league of their own", positioning themselves well above the rest.... for the next 365 days. The Peninsula has positioned themselves 82% above the average of their "peer group".... replacing the Dorchester, who historically commanded the price premium above anyone else.... 2. Given their superior product (time will tell if service, experience etc is more superior....) - their standard product in size is in most cases larger then the average Suite of the 5 star hotels in the surroundings of The Peninsula / Downtown London. 3. RevPAR and RGI tend to get a boost by managing to yield your Suite product.... With The Peninsula Standard product outshining your suite product.... this will significantly impact competitors RevPAR and RGI. Broader context We believe hotels should conduct (re)positioning studies and workshops on a more frequent basis, and definitely when significant events occur (like entry of a strong brand and operator).... Which hoteliers exude the very definition of hospitality to you? It’s a thought I had whilst catching up over coffee yesterday with the always warm and lovely, Charla Forinton at Brown's Hotel, a Rocco Forte Hotel in Mayfair. As she updated me on all the latest exciting news at Rocco Forte Hotels, I was reminded of of the time that Sir Rocco’s sister Olga Polizzi hosted a garden party for an intimate gathering of guests at her central London home. I’ve been very privileged to have attended intimate gatherings at the homes of Izzy Sharpe, Founder & Chairman of Four Seasons Hotels & Resorts, and the late & great Sir William Hastings, more well known as Billy, founder of Hastings Hotels. HOSPITALITY IN THEIR BLOOD Hoteliers who extend unique invites for guests to visit their homes simply exude hospitality. There are some values & attributes that such events communicate about the hotelier: 1️⃣ Personal touch - A hotel is a business, but our homes are our sanctuary and only close family & friends usually get invited in. For hoteliers to invite select groups of guests to enjoy hospitality at their home shows a deeper level of appreciate and helps foster connections. I’ve long felt a greater warmth and connection to Rocco Forte Hotels, Hastings Hotels, and Four Seasons Hotels & Resorts as a result of those grand gestures & experiences. 2️⃣ Going the Extra Mile - It’s a show of appreciation by the hotelier because it indicates a willingness to invest time & effort into hosting you and making you feel welcome in their personal space. 3️⃣ Relaxed - The home environment is less formal and much more relaxed than your typical hotel setting, so it helps facilitate more relaxed & authentic conversations that help build relationships. 4️⃣ Exclusivity - It’s always nice when someone makes you feel special and being invited to a hoteliers home makes you feel part of an inner circle, an exclusive club, where you have been recognised as providing value. Have you had such an experience in your industry and what else would you add to this list? 💡 This commitment to hospitality illustrated to me the high standards of service that could be expected for guests at each of these hotel groups. And, it just so happens I've never had less than exemplary service with any of these brands. #hotels #creative #personalservice
