Healthcare professionals are often celebrated during crises like pandemics, but once the immediate threat subsides, many feel undervalued and undercompensated. This disparity is especially pronounced in cases where salaries, job opportunities, and recognition are tied to factors such as nationality or immigration status rather than education, experience, or dedication to saving lives. The challenges faced by healthcare workers—long hours, emotional strain, and the physical toll of their work—are exacerbated when these professionals are not compensated fairly or given the respect they deserve. The exodus of skilled workers to other professions is a stark warning: if systemic issues like pay inequality and discrimination aren’t addressed, the industry risks losing the very backbone of healthcare systems. It's critical to advocate for better policies that ensure fair compensation, eliminate bias, and provide healthcare workers with the support they need. Beyond words of gratitude, tangible actions—such as improved pay structures, better working conditions, and equitable opportunities—are essential to valuing those who dedicate their lives to caring for others.
Today, I need to address a crucial issue in Dubai’s medical field. As an experienced and skilled GP specializing in both ER and aesthetics, I must express my concern regarding my colleagues undervaluing themselves. Why are you accepting salaries akin to taxi drivers or laborers while shouldering immense responsibilities for your patients? This is unacceptable. It's time to stop compromising your worth for the sake of low salaries. If you find yourself in a position where you cannot meet your expenses, it’s better to seek alternative employment—perhaps in a restaurant—rather than continue practicing medicine under these conditions. This mindset not only harms your own profession but also perpetuates unrealistic expectations regarding salary and worth, ultimately undermining our collective value as healthcare providers. Let's stand firm and demand the respect and compensation we deserve.
