I have been reluctant to share this, however I think it’s an ongoing issue that needs to be addressed. During my working life I have come to realise that being a parent creates a lot of discrimination in the workplace, especially when you are a single parent. Not all but a lot of employers do not understand or attempt to understand how hard it can be for parents to get affordable sustainable childcare during the school holidays. A lot of the times managers who do not have children never truely understand the challenges single parents face, then in turn lack emotional intelligence and empathy when childcare issues arise. The fact that the employee is great at their job and goes above and beyond for the company goes out the window when childcare issues arise. I am currently applying for new jobs and I am being very transparent from interview stage that during the 6 weeks holidays I will struggle with childcare. Simply because the holiday clubs available to me would cost me £250-300 PW per child, and realistically this would not be affordable for me due to running a household on one income. I have had rejection after rejection from jobs I am more than capable to do based off of my experience. I am also confident that I am answering interview questions well, however based off of me being honest and transparent regarding childcare during school holidays I’m positive that this is the issue. Truth be told I am a VERY GOOD EMPLOYMENT ADVISOR and I take my role seriously due to the passion and dedication I have for it, but the challenges I face due to being a single parent in the work place or applying for potential work is very hard. Whatever happened to resonable adjustments? Whatever happened to inclusivity? Changes need to be made where by single parents are supported more in the workplace.

Childcare in Luxury Hospitality - Industry Insight Edition #5 We are noticing a growing trend of families travelling in larger, multi-generational groups. With this increase comes a rising demand within the industry to cater to these groups, particularly in relation to young guests, as families are looking at how they can create a balance during these trips between shared group activities and one-on-one time. One typical topic of discussion for me with hoteliers is how the older generation connects with the younger one—such as the bond between grandparents and grandchildren. For instance, grandparents who live far from their grandchildren may see a holiday as a rare opportunity to build closer ties. This also applies to the whole family; for example, cousins who rarely meet due to busy schedules can finally enjoy quality time together on these trips. There are countless reasons why multi-generational travel is increasing, and it’s important for hoteliers to consider how best to support this. How can we enhance and encourage bonding, togetherness, and meaningful connections? Look at opportunities beyond the kids' club for family bonding. Think about special experiences you can offer around your hotel. For example: - I once spoke with a hotelier planning to build a cinema at their resort. I suggested a more intimate concept inspired by small, private screening rooms where families could gather to watch a film, order service, and enjoy a cosy setting with a large screen and comfortable seating. - Imagine a family dining together in the restaurant. A photographer offers to capture the moment, and later, a printed photo awaits them in their room as a keepsake. This concept could extend to various activities across the resort. - Examples of organised activities that can encourage family bonding include private guided walks or nature jogs, as well as family breakfasts with the chef, where they can prepare a nutritious meal together under the chef’s guidance. Review your services and spaces for family appeal. Ask yourself: - How do services such as nannying operate? Are they well-prepared to allow older family members to relax, knowing their little ones are well cared for? How can you as the nanny create experiences for the children to give them the opportunity to bond? - Could you consider offering special family hours within your kids' programme? - Do you have a family lounge or similar spaces around your resort that encourages connection and conversation? Are these areas comfortable, inviting, and well-equipped? There are many ways to enhance the family experience and help multi-generational groups connect. When done with proper strategy and investment, these offerings will add new meaning to the guest experience at your resort and open you up to a valuable market of family travellers. #childcare #luxuryhospitality #hospitality #industry #family #vacation #5star #service #littleguest #multigenerational #travel

...CHILDCARE these days is as EXPENSIVE as my MORTGAGE (wait, what?) How has finding affordable + reliable childcare impacted your career journey? The average annual cost of full time childcare (depending on your child's age and where you are located) is between $10k - $15k. That means, if you have more than ONE child under the age of 4, it can cost you $20k - $30k+ annually. My kiddos are ages 2.6 years young and 10 months. And it only continues to get more and more expensive every year. As I'm trying to get ramped back up in my business, I had recently applied for a program to ensure it was more affordable for #2under2 and was not approved. As of yesterday, I have transitioned my two BOYS back home as I create a flexible schedule to be able to spend quality time together. This means 5AM wake up calls to work between 5-8am EST before everyone wakes up and then either working or napping when they do between 11-1pm and 3-5pm EST. I'm really looking forward to spending this time together and to teach other MOMpreneurs how to automate, delegate, and outsource. Automated systems + workflows will help to free up energy and time in the process while ensuring you are able to monetize your expertise and serve at your HIGHEST level. Thankfully, I met a very lovely young lady at church this week who is a mommy’s helper and nanny. She is willing to be flexible for week days and date nights at an affordable rate. I’m praying we are a fit in the coming months as we begin workigng together. Securing the right childcare is key to rocking your business (+career)! Alternatively, I had used Care.com to find a family-friendly facility to hiring a mommy's helper, and has been my go-to for a number of years now (states: CT, FL, PA, and VA). They even offer cleaning and organizing help! As parents, we need to continue to be creative about how we identify childcare for our kiddos (from at home help, to daycare, early learning, summer camps, etc) Ready to level up your work-life balance? Parents are not alright! Something we have known intuitively is being demonstrated by science, and it is alarming. The 10th annual edition of the Modern Family Index, an independent study commissioned by Bright Horizons (NYSE: BFAM) and conducted by The Harris Poll, surveyed 2,000 working parents on their current state of mind and found: • 34% feel they’re working too many hours • 63% worry they’re unable to give their all to their families • 58% report they’re not giving 100% of themselves at work • 43% feel stressed because they are not being paid well enough for the work they’re doing Employers can help working parents by providing resources for primary and backup childcare. https://lnkd.in/g3s-Dq47

THE BEST 8 MONTHS OF MY LIFE! Today I returned to work after 8 amazing months of maternity leave. I feel so lucky to have spent such precious time with my gorgeous boy, Freddie; and I am very grateful to Network Rail for making that possible. I’m also hugely thankful to Henry Bates for supporting me throughout and making my departure from, and my return to, work so easy! I thought long and hard about how I could make the transition back as smooth as possible, and I spoke to numerous people for advice. Here’s what I learnt for anyone interested: - First and foremost - be comfortable with your childcare arrangements. Have settling in sessions so your child is familiar with his/her care providers and to give you chance to practice your new routine. - Build a support network and don’t be afraid to use it! - Have a clear idea of what you’re doing one week to the next, especially if you have mixed childcare arrangements. This includes drop off and pick up arrangements. Confirm arrangements at least a week out for your own peace of mind if nothing else. - Prepare for the next day, the night before. Pack bags, organise outfits and finalise drop offs/pick ups the evening before. - Set boundaries and stick to them. Be it working hours, working days, overnight stays, travel and so on. This is a BIG one for me so I’ll work doubly hard to maintain healthy boundaries and have asked my husband to hold me to account too! - Accept there will be circumstances out of your control that will mean a change of plan from time to time. This is normal and absolutely okay. Your work will wait or be picked up by a very capable team member. - Be open and honest about your emotions with your partner and your colleagues. It is TOUGH returning to work after such a long break, both physically and mentally (more mentally for me). Talking helps and you’ll find people have great advice having experienced similar. - And last but not least, remember you’re only human. Be kind to yourself and your partner as you navigate your way through your ‘new normal’. Or of course, you could just wing it! Whatever you choose to do, EMBRACE THE CHAOS (my new mantra!)!!

As the demand for quality care continues to rise, so does the need for passionate, skilled professionals to fill key roles in children's homes across the country. 🎯 Recruitment in this sector is more than just filling vacancies. It's about identifying individuals who are committed to making a difference in a child’s life, who bring empathy, resilience, and the ability to foster positive development. However, recruiting for residential children's homes comes with its own unique challenges: 💠 High emotional demands: Working in this environment requires not just professional qualifications, but also the emotional intelligence and dedication to support children through difficult times. 💠 Retention: Due to the nature of the work, retaining talent is as important as hiring the right people. Investing in ongoing training and development is essential. 💠 Compliance: The residential childcare industry is heavily regulated, meaning the recruitment process must ensure that candidates not only meet the standards of care but also understand the legal framework. 💡 Our goal in recruitment is to build strong, caring teams that can positively impact the lives of young people. Being a caregiver can reshape your career in unexpected ways. Skills that caregivers develop while caring for loved ones such as crisis management, adaptability, and leadership are incredibly valuable in the workplace. Beyond Care: How My Experience Transformed My Career Reflecting on my career, my greatest accomplishment wasn't tied to a paycheck. It was a project born out of necessity: creating an integrated childcare program where both typically developing children & those with disabilities could thrive together. I did this to ensure my own child had a place where they could belong, so I could return to work. When my first child was born with a disability, I faced a difficult choice: leave my job or create a solution from scratch (there were no existing programs that could meet my child’s needs). So, I took on the challenge. What started as a necessity, transformed into a project that reshaped my career and taught me new skills. 💡 Building an Inclusive Childcare Setting I approached the problem like a project manager, seeking buy-in from the childcare centre’s leadership and the manager. After weeks of building trust, we identified Early Childhood Educator champions & developed a comprehensive training plan. We anticipated challenges & addressed them proactively, ensuring every staff member felt prepared to care for a child with medical needs. We conducted 3 weeks of hands-on training, focusing on building confidence within a supportive environment. We documented everything & formalized processes and plans. This initiative didn't just create a safe space for my child, it paved the way for others to be included. Why share this? Because working caregivers take on significant, unpaid tasks just to stay in the workforce. 💡 But what if we didn't have to? What if workplaces understood that over 6M Canadians balance caregiving with paid work—a number that is growing. Earlier this year, Harvard Business School identified caregiver-friendly policies as a key competitive advantage for companies. 💡 My “Aha” Moment When my job was eliminated during my 2nd mat leave, I realized I had gained invaluable skills through caregiving—project management, strategy & crisis management. I shifted my focus & was able to leverage my skills to secure a role at a hospital that understood the pressures caregivers face. Caregivers have much to offer: dedication, adaptability & resilience. What if employers understood it was like returning to work after a sabbatical, with new perspectives & heightened awareness. This realization hit me when I discussed caregiving during a job interview, which led to a promotion. The skills they valued were the ones I practiced during a time of intense caregiving. Together, We Can Do Better Want to be an employer of choice and attract caregivers who are hardworking and dedicated? Create a flexible, understanding environment and you'll find caregivers are among the most resilient, resourceful and committed employees you can have. Childcare at the Olympics! 🥇 Recent examples of childcare initiatives in the workplace include the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, where the organizers introduced a nursery at the Olympic Village for athletes who are parents. This marks the first time such a facility has been offered, allowing athletes to balance their professional commitments with parenting. The initiative included free childcare services and products, highlighting the importance of supporting working parents even in high-stakes environments like the Olympics. This trend reflects a broader shift in workplaces recognizing the need for childcare support to enhance employee well-being and retention. Companies are increasingly providing on-site childcare, partnerships with local daycare centers, or subsidies to help employees manage work and family responsibilities. By offering such options, companies can improve employee satisfaction, reduce absenteeism, and attract top talent, especially as the demand for work-life balance grows. Implementing childcare options can range from creating in-house daycare facilities to offering flexible schedules for parents to manage childcare needs As companies continue to adapt to the evolving needs of their workforce, providing child care options will likely remain a key strategy in maintaining a stable and productive team.
