BPF updates recycling and reuse roadmap - #plastics #packaging #sustainablepackaging #packagingdesign A new edition of the British Plastics Federation’s Recycling Roadmap has been published that presents the latest UK data for plastics recycling and up-to-date forecasts of what the UK could achieve over the next decade. Produced in collaboration with Recoup, the document notes that nearly four years after the first edition was published, many of the required changes first mentioned in 2021, have still not happened. This is due to delays in implementing key policies as well as particularly challenging economic circumstances. EU PLASTICS RECYCLING MARKET Having analysed the plastics recycling market through many years I am concerned about the current state of play in Europe. This is a worrying time for the European plastics recycling industry. The market is becoming dysfunctional with uncontrolled imports a growing concern. With virgin materials still cheaper in many cases there is a reduced demand for recyclates. Imported materials are of a variable quality which is causing performance problems in the market. The recycling industry (just about) weathered the COVID-19 storm. It needs EU help now to get through the current choppy waters.
