Hydraulic motor application ------ Hydraulic power tongs (1) Hydraulic casing tongs are driven by a hydraulic motor, which adopts a single or double transmission structure and provides driving force through a gearbox and hydraulic power unit. It is driven by a combination of liquid and gas and is tightened and rotated by a gear motor and an airbag. During operation, a steel cable is used to hang the casing tongs on the wellhead, and a backup rope is used to prevent the tongs from rotating around the pipe string due to torque force and provide counter-torque. #power #hydraulics #engineering #technology

Quartzelec has the engineering expertise and extensive testing facilities to offer bespoke testing of all #motors and #generators, as well as gearboxes and transformers… including transformer bushings! Recently our site services team performed a Hi Pot test on a 22kV Transformer Bushing for a Power Generation company based in the East of England, where our client had requested a Hi Pot test to check the leakage current before installation. Hi Pot testing is designed to detect gaps or clearances between conductive parts and earth are sufficient and that degradation, including pin holes, cracks in #insulation or other protection devices have not resulted through operational duties . The transformer bushing was tested at our Rugby based workshop in our state-of-the-art test facilities, where a direct application of a 46kV voltage was applied whilst the bushing was under test in order to stress the dielectric properties of the bushing so the leakage current can be assessed. Fortunately for our client, the gaps between the conductive parts were sufficient and there was no breakdown in insulation, concluding that the leakage current was at acceptable and compliant levels. iron sharpens iron A star-delta connection is a method used to start and operate three-phase induction motors. This technique helps reduce the starting current and allows the motor to gradually reach its full speed. Here’s a brief overview of how it works: ## Star Connection (Y-Connection) 1. Configuration: In the star configuration, one end of each of the three windings of the motor is connected together at a neutral point, while the other ends are connected to the supply. 2. Starting Phase: When the motor is started in the star configuration, the voltage across each winding is reduced to √3 times the line voltage, leading to a lower starting current. ### Delta Connection (Δ-Connection) 1. Configuration: In the delta configuration, the windings are connected end-to-end to form a closed loop, with each corner of the triangle connected to the supply. 2. Running Phase: Once the motor reaches around 70-80% of its rated speed, it switches to the delta configuration, allowing it to operate at full voltage and current for maximum torque. ### Benefits of Star-Delta Connection - Reduced Starting Current: Decreases the electrical load during startup, protecting the motor and the power supply. - Lower Torque at Startup: Reduces mechanical stress on the motor and attached machinery. - Efficient Operation: Once in delta mode, the motor can operate efficiently at full capacity. ### Typical Applications Star-delta starters are commonly used in applications where large motors (typically above 5 HP) are involved, such as fans, pumps, and compressors.
