🌟 Celebrating Women in Construction! Last month, some talented team members attended the Women in Construction event hosted by the Construction Association of Nova Scotia. Events such as these are valuable platforms for women to connect, share experiences, and champion each other in a historically male-dominated industry. At DORA, we’re dedicated to listening, learning, and growing, focusing on what matters most to women in construction. Here’s what excites them about the future of women in the industry! 💬 “I am excited that the industry's very clear shortage will force many more doors open than previously would have been possible. The fact that trades are being promoted more in the school system means that more girls will be exposed to these options than when I was in school.” Adrienne Kidd - Project Administration Manager “Women are gaining full confidence in their voice in this industry.” Phenicious Phiri - Recruitment Assistant “The number of females in attendance at this event clearly confirmed that women are successfully breaking barriers and stereotypes. Our peers inspire future generations to pursue their dreams in this industry regardless of their gender. That’s both exciting and empowering!” Leanne Wells - Construction Administrator “The thing that excites me the most about the future in the industry is that we are going to have more equal opportunities than there once were.” Jayme Forgeron - Project Administrator “I believe the future for women in construction looks very good. There are many career opportunities available for women in the construction industry.” Susan Morash - Project Assistant “As we break down barriers and bring fresh perspectives to the field. Women increasingly lead projects, champion sustainable practices, and create more inclusive work environments. It’s inspiring to be part of an industry that’s evolving to embrace diverse talent.” Alyssa Landmann - Process Development / Quality Control

Breaking Barriers: 🚧 Building a More Inclusive Construction Industry The call for greater gender diversity in B.C.'s construction sector is louder than ever, but the journey to shatter the glass ceiling is still underway. The article written by Vancouver Is Awesome, breaks this down even further. https://lnkd.in/gqT7d2RB Jas Sangha, CFO of Crown Building Supplies, recalls feeling like an outsider when she entered construction. She attributes this to the industry's male-dominated landscape, emphasizing the need for mentorship and leadership opportunities for women. Despite recent progress, women make up only 13% of Canada's construction workforce, with B.C. lagging at just 4.5%. However, there's a silver lining: while overall construction employment saw a dip, women saw an increase of 4.5% in jobs, especially in the 25-to-54 age group. Recently, over 200 women gathered at the Women in Construction Conference in Vancouver on International Women’s Day, hosted by Canadian Construction Women and the Vancouver Regional Construction Association.

As a proud women-owned construction business, today’s discussions resonated deeply with me. The emphasis on opening doors for diversity and empowering underrepresented voices in construction was not just encouraging but a clarion call for action. We were reminded that diversity goes beyond just hiring practices; it’s about fostering an environment where every voice is heard, valued, and given the space to lead. Key takeaways from today include: • The importance of mentorship and support networks for women and minorities in construction. • Innovative strategies for creating more inclusive workspaces. • The critical role of policy and leadership in driving diversity and inclusion. As we look forward to the rest of the conference, let’s carry forward the momentum from today. Let’s challenge ourselves to be the architects of change, building not just structures, but a construction industry that truly reflects the diversity and dynamism of the world we live in. #NewYorkBuilds #DiversityInConstruction #WomenInConstruction #InclusiveLeadership #buildingthefuture
