Don't miss the summer edition of COTE news (from the The American Institute of Architects (AIA) Knowledge Community: Committee on the Environment), coming on the heels of the AIA Conference in June (#AIA24). Check out the chair letter by Michelle Amt, FAIA -- her perspective is, as always, thought provoking and inspiring. We also have a great update about the AIA Materials Pledge from Tanya Eagle and Eana Bacchiocchi, a report from the COTE Open Forum from a first time attendee and educator, Brittany L. Williams, AIA LEED AP, and a snapshot of the 2024 COTE Top Ten winners from Lyndley Kent, AIA, LFA (including the Bruner/Cott design for MASS MoCA, shown here in a photo by Michael Moran). And as always, we have a great collection of news and notes and resources from the field. #DesignIsClimateAction https://lnkd.in/gf8c8ADw

Achieving a reduction in embodied carbon demands a transformation across major global industries. While this challenge is too large for any single organization or network to tackle alone, the CLF Toronto | Carbon Leadership Forum is strategically positioned to influence the building sector with targeted, high-impact initiatives and interventions. We are proud to support an organization who is raising awareness, driving innovation and fostering change to eliminate carbon from buildings and infrastructure through collective action. #CarbonLeadership #EmbodiedCarbon #SustainableBuilding #ClimateAction #CarbonReduction #BuildingSustainability
A huge thank you to our Silver Sponsors for your continued support of the 2024 CLF Ontario Embodied Carbon Awards. The OECAs will honor the accomplishments of projects within Ontario that have strived to minimize their environmental impact by reducing their embodied carbon footprint. ~THANK YOU ~ DIALOG, Canadian Urban Limited, Mantle Developments, KPMB Architects, EllisDon & Envirotech Office Learn more here: https://lnkd.in/gRvEi9vx The call for submissions is now closed, but stay tuned for more information on ticket sales and other exciting developments!

Headline to start the day: a new version of The Construction Playbook is due this Summer. Adoption is still a challenge, is better resourcing or a Construction Playbook ‘lite’ the answer? Long-term investment or some quick wins? I’d say a mixture of both.
The doors to our Wates House Pavilion are now open for Day 2 at UKREiiF! The team are excited to kick off another busy day of panel sessions and networking opportunities, starting with a discussion chaired by Wates Group Public Sector Director, Stephen Beechey. We kicked things off at 9.30am with a frank and engaging discussion around 'The Construction Playbook - still the path to a better future?' Day 2 also includes a packed line up of thought-provoking panel sessions unpicking challenging topics including what it takes to deliver successful public / private sector partnerships (11am) to sustainably shaping the science and research buildings of the future (2.15pm) and harnessing digitally enabled construction and MEP to drive sustainable development (1pm) - all led by experts from across the Wates Group who will be joined by leading industry peers. We look forward to welcoming you with a hot coffee, a comfortable chair (and shelter from the rain!) along with fresh insights at the UKREiiF conference again today. https://lnkd.in/eHJhsuHQ

Even when WE (Steven Winter Associates) aren’t presenting, we are “presented”. The ever incredible Paul Ormond presenting at the Boston Society for Architecture’s Wagdy Anis (Building Enclosure) Symposium how the efforts we make as building performance implementers can have game-changing effects to grid modification (a point I have made in other arenas tackling the “costs of grid modernization” discussion—the costs are dispersed with better performance in buildings).
