The Supreme Court’s consideration of the Uinta Basin railway case under NEPA offers a critical opportunity to streamline environmental review processes and empower America’s energy and infrastructure future. As we look ahead to new leadership, this is a chance to align environmental policy with priorities like energy security, economic growth, and infrastructure development. The Uinta Basin railway project underscores the importance of balancing efficient regulatory processes with responsible resource development. By focusing on practical, actionable reforms, we can position the U.S. for global competitiveness while respecting local and national interests. The incoming administration has a unique opportunity to shape a future where infrastructure and energy projects can advance efficiently under clear and predictable guidelines. #EnergySecurity #InfrastructureDevelopment #EnvironmentalPolicy #AmericanCompetitiveness

The fast track consenting list, bigger than anticipated. No surprises to see TTR, ruataniwha dam, and the southern aquaculture in the list, but otherwise a quick skim suggests opportunities for land and consent bankers (eg for future subdivision and energy generation). Most of the projects I am not familiar with, so will be interested in reading people's analysis. I remain curious at the failure of NZ Inc to address the competition between the ports in tauranga, Auckland and whangarei which seems incredibly inefficient and to have multiple consequential adverse impacts that might be less with a coordinated approach. https://lnkd.in/g3x7_TCz

As the U.S. grapples with an aging infrastructure, the spotlight is increasingly on the 92,000+ dams listed by the National Inventory of Dams (NID) - many of which are over 50 years old and no longer serve their original purpose. Scholars are highlighting the pressing need for action, from enhancing safety and reducing maintenance costs to restoring ecosystems and improving water quality. Experts emphasize the long-term environmental and economic benefits of free-flowing rivers, but they also call for more inclusive strategies, including Tribal involvement and thorough community impact assessments. The next few years will be critical in leveraging federal funds like the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (which faces an uncertain future with the incoming Trump administration) to transform this challenge into an opportunity for sustainable growth and environmental justice. #Sustainability #Infrastructure #DamRemoval #EnvironmentalJustice #IIJA

Can Canada still build big things? Adam Pankratz and Sedgwick Strategies’ Director of Policy Jack Middleton offer a refreshing perspective “With the Trans Mountain Pipeline Expansion finally complete, what did we learn?” Within the TMX expansion is an important lesson for all Canadians, not just those who support oil and natural gas: it’s a warning that building the infrastructure required for an #energy #transition will face similar challenges. Critical minerals mines, transmission lines, and even communications networks must all travel through Indigenous territories to be built. Environmental permits must be obtained. If managed improperly, both add risk and cost. It is imperative that businesses and government look at what went well for Trans Mountain and what didn’t, if we are to move forward on building any linear infrastructure in Canada. https://lnkd.in/d2YAiQwz

📢 Regulatory Bulletin Released, September Edition: Funding for Critical Minerals Development & Clean Energy The federal government has announced a $60 million investment through the Critical Minerals Infrastructure Fund for two key projects in Northern BC and the Yukon. These projects will help unlock essential minerals like copper and cobalt, vital for Canada's clean energy future while creating jobs and fostering partnerships with Indigenous communities. Additionally, dual investments from the federal and BC governments will support clean economy infrastructure, improving energy efficiency, expanding clean energy, and providing better access to clean transportation options across the province. Saskatchewan is also stepping up with funding for 13 emissions reduction projects, expected to cut nearly 4.6 million tons of CO2 by reducing methane emissions, enhancing energy efficiency, and advancing carbon capture technologies. INFRASTRUCTURE....So what does the future hold for Water and Electricity. Many of my contacts will be aware of the current infrastructure schemes affecting Cheshire and North Wales, the principal ones being the HyNet Carbon Capture and Hydrogen Fuel pipelines, as well as several large cable schemes connecting new offshore wind farms to the grid in North Wales. We have yet to see the major upgrades and expansion of the water and electricity networks in the region, which will come in time. Looking further afield to the Eastern Counties, Anglian Water is proposing two new reservoirs and associated infrastructure, the links show the scale of these 2 projects and the large amounts of land required on both a temporary and permanent basis to allow construction: https://lnkd.in/egNUniKd https://lnkd.in/eHPdjMfU While the Eastern Green Link 3 & 4 projects aim to bring power generated in Scotland into the grid: https://lnkd.in/e75u3B3y Such investment is certainly long overdue and it will be only a matter of time before such schemes are proposed in our region. As always, seeking professional advice and engaging in early, proactive discussions with developers can influence the route and impact on property. #Rostons #Compulsorypurchase #Surveyor #Agriculture #Utilities

Ports are a top economic engine of our coastal economies, so it is fantastic to see the American Association of Port Authorities endorse the revenue sharing improvements proposed by the #RISEEAct. These revenues are versatile and can be directed to a state's specific coastal needs, including port infrastructure and resilience. https://lnkd.in/gq9b9PDF

📢 Nefco and #Denmark are rebuilding water supply infrastructure in #Mykolaiv, in southern #Ukraine, close to the Black Sea. A new grant agreement has been signed between Nefco - the Nordic Green Bank and the city of Mykolaiv on rebuilding the water supply system for a selected district in the city. 💡 This investment project will improve non-revenue water management and support the rebuilding of the city’s water supply infrastructure. In total, EUR 7.2 million has been allocated to the project’s implementation and technical assistance by Denmark, through the Udenrigsministeriet. 🛠 The Korabelnyi district in the city of Mykolaiv has been chosen as a demonstration area for the recovery and reconstruction of the entire water supply system of the city of Mykolaiv. This residential district was selected due to its high population density and large number of multistorey buildings, as well as the current challenges with the water distribution network. The distribution network in the Korabelnyi district is currently in very poor technical condition with pipe leakages reaching about 40%. ✔ The aim of this project is to reduce water losses and increase energy efficiency of the water distribution processes by identifying water leakages, improving non-revenue water performance and creating a sustainable basis for further development of the freshwater system in Mykolaiv. Over 70,600 Korabelnyi residents, including some 6,800 internally displaced people, are set to benefit from the improved water supply services thanks to #Danish funding. ℹ Read more: https://lnkd.in/diGxJpy3 Embassy of Denmark in Ukraine Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Denmark Iryna Fedorenko Olena Rybak Irina Omelianenko #watermanagement #waterreconstruction

Do you know how EU Hydropower sector is contributing to nature conservation and restoration? It is explained in the new Eurelectric's Short Story: https://bit.ly/4dGv5BC - including also great fishway examples in river Österdalälven made by Fortum. One topical issue has also been raised: When developing nature restoration plans under the recently adopted NRR, Member States must ensure synergies with RES projects and avoid adding obstacles to permitting procedures.
