First things first. Let's discuss what a SOC Analyst is. A Security Operations Center (SOC) is an organization within a company responsible for monitoring, alerting, and responding to security events for critical assets. It functions like a company's alarm system, monitoring critical systems and responding to alerts. Salaries for a SOC analyst range between $82,000 and $115,000, according to https://zurl.co/1bzj. However, compensation can vary. The importance of this position is akin to using an armed alarm system at your home. If you're not home, you'd want to know if someone was trying to break in. SOC analysts do exactly that. They monitor for attempted compromises and alert necessary teams. Becoming a SOC Analyst involves using Splunk, a premier Security Information Event Manager (SIEM) solution. They offer free courses to equip you from zero to becoming a cybersecurity analyst. Remember, complete training is not the end goal. It's about gaining knowledge, skills, and understanding to implement solutions at a company. Take time to go through the training and understand what Splunk is and its capabilities. Your High-Paying tech career is around the corner! Are you ready, let me know in the comments. #BoydClewis #CareerGoals #LevelUp #CyberSecurity #NoDegreeNeeded #Confidence #Tech #GRCtech

🚨 Windows Blue Screen of Death: Crowdstrike Issue Resolved! 🚨 Today, many IT infrastructures faced a critical challenge with the Windows blue screen of death due to a Crowdstrike issue. I am proud to share that my 6 years of software development experience allowed me to tackle this head on and resolve the issue for our office without external support. Watching many IT engineers struggle with this situation made me realize the importance of having individuals with hands on experience who can independently navigate and resolve critical issues. Just recently, I thwarted a DNS attack, and now, I managed to fix this new problem, reinforcing that I am a one man army capable of addressing and resolving significant IT challenges. This situation highlights a crucial point for companies: hiring self driven and experienced professionals who continuously update their skills is essential. Traditional hiring practices that prioritize tenure over skill can leave companies vulnerable during crises. To HR professionals and companies: let’s shift our focus towards individuals who demonstrate a proactive approach and hands on experience. They are the ones who will drive your organization forward in the face of unforeseen challenges. #SoftwareDevelopment #ITInfrastructure #Crowdstrike #WindowsBSOD #Cybersecurity #TechSkills #ProblemSolving #OneManArmy

Going through a google/coursera course on Cybersecurity is interesting to the eyes of someone who has done this for a while. It really highlights why folks like Carlota Sage (Pocket CISO / #vCISO ) are so valuable. Much of the material is written from the perspective of a large and established organization: one that can fully staff a security NOC and have dedicated team members. That's fine for your Fortune 500's. But there are 33 million small businesses that are nearly half of all employees working in the US. And those people are forced to gamble without knowledge: They have to make a value call on what risks are worth addressing within their company and how. Hiring a virtual-CISO is a great way to get an edge on that value call. Of what works right and right now. And also, the really difficult part no one talks out: how do we get from where we are, to where we want to be. What are the steps for incremental improvement? Ah well. Back to the class that teaches how security should work in a perfect world.

I know we all have jumped down the cybersecurity rabbit hole. But there is one important topic I want us to question and analyze. Do we even know what we want to accomplish in this industry? Have we really looked at our strengths and weaknesses to find the best fit? Have we researched what skills are needed to fulfill our new role? We spend so much time studying for certifications and degrees, however we may not know what to do with the information that we have learned. Knowledge without application is just knowledge. This quote really hit me. I challenge us all to do the work to answer these questions. The outcome may surprise us all. #informationtechnology #informationtech #informationsecurity #techsupport #technicaltraining #technicalskills #systemadministration #systemengineer #systemsengineering #helpdesk #helpdesksupport #helpdesktechnician #desktopsupport #desktopsupportengineer #desktopengineer #servicedesk #servicedeskengineer
