I'm thrilled to share that I've successfully completed my 2-months internship at Venture Catalysts++ | India's 1st Multi-Stage VC !🚀 During my internship, I had the valuable opportunity to work in the investment department and also with the Deal and Sourcing team which provided me with a deep understanding of how venture capital operates. Played a pivotal role in crafting comprehensive investment memos for promising startups in the dynamic FMCG, SaaS, Fintech and EV landscapes. Immersed myself in qualitative and quantitative analysis to uncover hidden potential and drive informed decision-making. Successfully executed operational tasks, ensuring seamless communication and project timelines under the guidance of Arjun Mittal. To stay updated, prepared daily reports on news within the startup ecosystem to analyze trends and conducted in-depth research on the future of the Indian startup ecosystem and its potential trends for recent years. I had the opportunity to work closely with the Deal and Sourcing department, drafting business due diligence reports for multiple startups across various sectors including ConsumerTech, F&B, and SaaS. Additionally, consolidated feedback from Investor Committee meetings, which was instrumental in evaluating investment proposals. Thank you to Reshma Jhaveri, Anuja Dhomne, and Ishita A. for their guidance and support with the work under deal and sourcing. Overall, the two-month internship provided me with detailed insights into the startup ecosystem and related aspects. This is 𝐃𝐚𝐲 𝟏𝟕 of the 𝟐𝟏 Day Sprint of learning 𝐅𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞 Related Topics. The topic that I'll be covering today is the difference between 𝐕𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞 𝐂𝐚𝐩𝐢𝐭𝐚𝐥 and 𝐏𝐫𝐢𝐯𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐄𝐪𝐮𝐢𝐭𝐲. Venture capital is the investment made in startups and young companies. While private equity is for the mature companies which are not listed on any public stock exchange. I am pleased to announce that I have completed my internship for summer 2024 at Middle East Venture Partners (MEVP). As I look back at my time throughout the internship, I see an invaluable opportunity that turned into an unforgettable experience. As an Investment Analyst intern, I analyzed startup performance to assess potential investments, taking into account financial metrics and growth potential. I evaluated market conditions to determine the viability of startups within specific industries and regions. My work involved developing and presenting analytical findings using Excel and PowerPoint, which played a key role in the investment decision-making process. Here are some of my key takeaways from the internship: 1. Seek Knowledge: I learned the importance of constantly seeking knowledge and staying curious. Whether it’s understanding the nuances of a new market, diving deep into financial metrics, or simply asking questions, the pursuit of knowledge is essential. This mindset not only helps in making informed decisions but also in staying ahead in a rapidly changing environment. 2. Execute Immediately: In the fast-paced world MEVP and other VC firms live in, I realized the significance of executing ideas and strategies without delay. The difference between a good idea and a successful one often lies in the speed of execution. By acting quickly, I was able to capitalize on opportunities and drive meaningful results, reinforcing the notion that timing is everything in business. 3. The CEO is Just a Human: At first, I felt intimidated to walk into the CEO's office and ask him questions, but it was later on that I realized that that is where some of the most significant things I learned throughout the internship were found. Working closely with leadership, I discovered that even the most successful CEOs are just people, with their own strengths and challenges. This realization helped me build up the confidence required to ask the questions and seek out the opportunities. 4. The Market Won’t Wait for You: I learned that the market is constantly evolving, and it won’t wait for anyone to catch up. This taught me the importance of staying proactive, continuously monitoring market trends, and being ready to adapt strategies quickly. When given a startup to analyze, it was imperative that I went through the KPI's and other financial metrics quickly, yet meticulously, in order to make a fast yet calculated decision that would ultimately yield MEVP a substantial ROI, while providing large amounts of benefit to the startup. Finally, I would like to thank Walid Hanna and Walid Mansour for accepting me into the MEVP family, Naldo Bejjani for mentoring and guiding me through the process, and Luca Rachid and Melisa Caglar for sharing this wonderful experience with me!
