It has the power to make us feel and engage at a deeper level almost instantaneously. Think about how hearing a song can instantly make you light up, feel the feels, become nostalgic, or make you want to dance your heart out. You can’t underestimate the power of music, especially in the professional space. Music transforms events into unforgettable experiences. Let’s make your next conference sparkle like a disco ball. 🪩

Music has the power to build event communities. (It’s more than just entertainment) I spoke to Felicia Asiedu, Marketing Director Europe at Cvent during the Cvent Accelerate event in Berlin, about the power of music: 1. Music creates an emotional connection: it transports you to a moment in time—the smells, the feelings, the memories. 2. Participation: With Song Division attendees helped create the song. 3. Building a stronger community: Hearing their words sung back brought people together, making the event more than just another corporate event. How do you use music to create connections at your events?

The last few weeks of the year are generally packed with events, dinners, and awards evenings, and I have attended my fair share of these over the years. The one thing that strikes me at all these events is the loud music/band while everyone eats. I find myself going through a few phases: - Phase 1: speaking loudly to the person next to me and trying to hear what they say - Phase 2: speaking even louder and trying to lip-read - Phase 3: not speaking or listening at all I understand and know that ambient noise at the right volume can eliminate other noises like crockery and foot traffic, but why do event organisers and bands always pump up the music so loud? I found an interesting article (see comments) that considers this an insult to those who attend and plan to network.

Day 13 of embracing the wonders of life! The festival season has kicked off with full vigor here in the Netherlands, where it feels like the celebration never truly ends. Yesterday, I had the immense pleasure of attending a Massive Attack concert in the vibrant city of Tilburg. It was one of those rare, magical days when everything aligned perfectly: the enchanting setting, the flawless weather, and the electrifying music. What fascinates me most about festivals is how they bring together such a diverse array of people in a relatively small space, yet everyone remains joyful and harmonious. While the flow of beer might contribute, I believe it's more about the collective mindset. People come with the intention of having a good time and connecting with others, creating a unique atmosphere of camaraderie and joy. This phenomenon triggers my curiosity. What is it about these gatherings that fosters such a peaceful and unified mindset? Is it solely our connection to the music, which alters our brain chemistry and brings us closer together? Or is the crowd perhaps less diverse than it appears, unified by shared interests? There could be other underlying factors at play that encourage positive behavior in large groups, shifting our focus towards enjoyment rather than discord. I believe that real change in organizations and society comes from learning across disciplines and applying these insights to our own contexts. I challenge you to approach the weekend with an open mind. Look for moments in your activities that could inspire professional innovation. Train your brain to be observant and associative, and you'll find new inspiration along your path ! A well-executed event will live on long after the last delegate has travelled home. Great events build great communities.   One of the best community-building opportunities is promoting your event. Good marketing and communications in the lead-up to an event give you reasons to stay in touch with community members, build excitement, and start sharing stories and valuable information. Promote your event with stories from the speakers they won't be included in the event themselves, tips from sponsors or members to get people excited, and pre-event activities such as competitions. Social media around events allows attendees to interact with each other and build FOMO in those not yet committed to attending. That's exactly what events like music festivals do, and the same can be done for even the least rock 'n roll business event.   By sharing great content before the event, you build excitement, have attendees already warmed into the themes and subjects, create connections between members, and give some value to those who can't attend this time. All of this builds community around your event to ensure that the event's impacts continue well after it's over. #events #eventmarketing #community

READ MORE: Be Here Now: Why Oasis deserve another crack at America Six directors received the payout after the firm, SJM, made an £11.8m pre-tax profit, according to its accounts for last year (via BBC News). The revenue from 2023 does not include fees for promoting Oasis’ tour, which experts believe could be substantial with the initial tour dates potentially pulling £400million in ticket sales, which SJM would take a cut of. Headed by ticket promoter Simon James Moran, SJM is one of several companies involved in the promotion of the Oasis reunion tour and the selling of the tickets. The company has also promoted and sold tickets for a range of other gigs and shows including Harry Styles, Coldplay and Little Simz. SJM also owns gigsandtours.com, which was one of the three ticket sellers alongside Ticketmaster and SeeTickets for the Oasis tour dates. The other two promoters are MCD Promotions and DF Concerts. The ticketing platform’s “surge pricing” scheme, introduced in 2022, increases ticketing priced based on demand. Following the UK and Ireland sale controversy, the issue was brought to the Advertising Standards Agency and the European Commission, with a separate call for an investigation brought by the UK government and the European Commission. Experts also suggested that not warning Oasis fans of the dynamic pricing may breach consumer law. The festival-conference will take place from June 2 to 7 next year within the Shoreditch neighbourhood. Per Billboard, the festival is set to generate more than £75million (roughly US$97million) for the UK economy and attract over 20,000 attendees, according to its organisers. SXSW London’s head of music Adem Holness promises big things for its inaugural edition, aiming for a seamless cross-pollination between the SXSW touchpoints of music, film and technology. “The thing we can do uniquely is pull together reflections of the cutting-edge, grassroots music communities and – if I’m just thinking about the music program – how people can get involved in what is happening at the cutting edge and how they might be able to work with those different international music scenes to develop them and develop ideas with them,” Holness tells Billboard. “That’s what I think SXSW London should be.” He adds that he wants SXSW London to not “just feel like a series of performances, but like you’re experiencing culture and around that”. SXSW London aims to be a hub for broader European perspectives, Holness explains. He wants it to “make sure our neighbours and friends feel like they’re a big part of what we’re trying to do”. Its Shoreditch location was selected because it “feels in a way like a microcosm of what London is”, Holness adds. “It’s a hub of technology, but you’ve also got incredible nightlife. You’ve got distinct diasporic communities in and around that area and obviously the whole of London. Celebrating our professional legacy You may have already heard that the 19th edition of the George Enescu International Competition started on the 31st of August. First, we have a message to all the young artists who have entered this year’s competition: we root for your passion, your talent and your hard work! From our perspective, there’s something very special about this year’s edition, as OMA Vision created the strategic branding of the George Enescu Festival and Competition in 2012 and developed its communication between 2012-2017 and 2019-2021. It’s the 10-year anniversary of the Enescu Competition reinvention and establishment as a standalone event, taking place in the years between the Enescu Festival’s editions. How did we get to this? In the summer of 2013, the Enescu Festival faced an unexpected government budget cut, which forced Mihai Constantinescu, the Executive Director of the Festival at that time, to postpone the Enescu Competition for 2014. Mihai Constantinescu challenged us to come with a concept allowing the Competition to become attractive to the wide audiences and for more well qualified artists. So we did! The opening gala, putting under the spotlight the winners of the previous edition is part of the concept that OMA Vision advanced. OMA Vision put its unique signature on reviving and reshaping the George Enescu International Competition.
