SelectPack had the privilege of contributing to the first-ever Report on the Printing Market in Ukraine, which was part of the Polish Print and Packaging Report presented at Drupa 2024 in Düsseldorf last June. This edition was especially significant as it included valuable insights into the transformation of the Ukrainian printing market. We were excited to collaborate with Polska Izba Druku, whose expertise and leadership in the industry were key in shaping this comprehensive report. Is that the future for drupa – no. 1 for printing technologies ? Is that the feeling some visitors, exhibitors had during the show ? drupa 2024 will remain engraved in my memories forever. The last edition was held in 2016 and, well, Packitoo and our software Packitoo HIPE didn't exist yet! So this was a first for me and the whole team - Corinne Loustalet, Guillaume Poineau, Maxime Celda. With such a specific scenario, as we were hosted on BOBST, as one of the next generation solutions for the industry. Back in France, I've witnessed a lot of debate around this edition, which could be 'losing momentum' since it had the lowest number of visitors since its creation in 1951! I can't tell you whether the model of the 'real' show - as opposed to the virtual one - can be completely transformed, or even whether it should be. In any case, my personal feeling is that drupa is so emblematic and has been so influential in the print and packaging sectors over the last 70 years that the level of expectations is very high and no one is satisfied with the decline in visitor numbers. Now, my personal bet is that it will remain a hot spot for our industry, at least for those who make the effort to travel to Dusseldörf 😊 Curious to get your opinion on what works, what doesn't, what should be done for next editions ? So, the news is finally out! We got a new Alegro binder... We are one of Ireland's largest sheetfed printers, and as such, we are constantly looking for ways to increase productivity and ensure that we are in the best possible position to deliver for our customers. We're currently installing an Alegro binder from Muller Martini at our 125,000-square-foot Belfast site. We will be able to organise our production much more efficiently after investing in the Alegro binder, which replaces the old Heidelberg perfect binder. "Our print runs and volumes are constantly increasing, and the demand for our services is growing all the time," explains GPS Director David Bell during his visit to the Müller Martini booth at the drupa – no. 1 for printing technologies show. "That's why we're looking forward to this efficient perfect binder, which we expect will triple our productivity." This machine equipment allows GPS to simplify its production processes, which is a significant advantage given Ireland's skilled labour shortage. Frank places drupa 2024 in historical perspective. He tracks and compares attendance and number of exhibitors over the last 24 years. Although the number of exhibitors has remained over 1,600, the number of attendees has dropped from 450,000 to 170,000. It is still a substantial and significant audience.
